Semester-long students have the option of performing community service in the afternoons or at other scheduled times. These services will include volunteer work in waste management, pest control, introduced species control, conservation, and working with the local community in day care centers, elementary and high schools. Some students will also be involved in the community college, teaching courses such as languages and math to the local population.

Volunteer Teachers

GAIAS seeks experienced ESL teachers throughout the year to volunteer at its community college in San Cristobal. Teachers receive free room and board in exchange for their services.

Minimum requirements: Applicants should be native speakers of English. They should have a BA in Education or other related field OR have a TESOL certificate plus two years of teaching experience. There is a minimum time commitment of six months. There is no salary for this position.
