Diego Quiroga Ph.D. University of Illinois. Anthropology. Diego´s academic work has primarily focused on medical anthropology, human ecology and race and ethnicity and he has several publications in these areas. Diego works at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) where he teaches anthropology and is the Dean of Academic Affairs. In addition, Diego is Co-Director of the Galapagos Academic Institute for the Arts and Sciences (GAIAS) and the USFQ-Galapagos Extension located in San Cristobal. He is the USFQ representative for the Alliance, an association of several national and international organizations responsible for the USAID Project "Conservation of the Galapagos Marine Reserve." Download CV Gunter Reck. Ph.D. Kiel University, Germany. Marine Sciences. Former director of the Charles Darwin Station, Gunter has been working in the Galapagos for over 30 years. He has been involved in numerous projects on the islands and the Coast of Ecuador. Born in Germany, Gunter became a resident of the Galapagos in 1984. Download CV Hugo Valdebenito. Ph.D. Ohio State University. Botany. Hugo was the Charles Darwin Research Station’s botanist from 1989 to 1993 and since then has been involved with flora of the Galapagos. He is a professor and Dean of the School of Life Sciences at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito. Download CV Carlos Valle Ph.D. Princeton University. Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Carlos, a native of the Galapagos, has conducted extensive scientific research in the Galapagos and the coast of Ecuador. He is one of the leading experts on marine birds of the Galapagos, and an experienced naturalist. He is Co-Director of the Galapagos Academic Institute for the Arts and Sciences (GAIAS). Download CV David Romo holds a Ph.D. in Conservation Biology from the University of Minnesota. He divides his time between teaching for the College of Biological and Environmental Sciences, Coordinating the Biology Department and Co-directing the Tiputini Biodiversity Station (TBS). It is with this last job that he is able to contribute to the conservation of the Yasuní Biosphere Reserve in Ecuador. David has taught Conservation Biology for several years, both as an undergraduate and graduate course. Download CV Maria Teresa Ponce. MFA. School of Visual Arts. New York, New York. Maria Teresa coordinates the Photography Department at USFQ and teaches advanced courses in photography. She also works as a free-lance photographer for editorials that focus on social and cultural issues. As an artist, she has exhibited internationally and works constantly on personal projects in several media including photography, video, installation and public art. Download CV Andrea Encalada, Ph.D. Cornell University. Population Ecology Andrea Encalada currently teaches as part of the full-time faculty at USFQ. She has degrees and specialties in Biology, freshwater ecology, and marine and aquatic research. She is the principal researcher on a leaf decomposition project in Portugal as well.
