LOCATION
GAIAS is located on the island of San Cristóbal in the capital city of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. The island has a population of approximately 6,000 people, most of whom make their living principally by artesanal fishing and tourism.
Ninety-seven percent of the land surface of the Galapagos Islands is a National Park which together with The Galapagos Marine Reserve (one of the largest in the world) have been declared by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites..
In February 2002, the government of Ecuador assigned USFQ a beautiful site of 11 acres overlooking the bay to build the GAIAS campus. USFQ purchased additional land and invested in infrastructure and equipment in order to build a modern, comfortable campus.
