CAMPUSES


Cumbayá Campus

 

USFQ was founded in 1987.  Its main campus is located in Cumbayá, in the beautiful Tumbaco Valley 15 minutes outside of Quito, Ecuador. More information about USFQ.    Photos.

 

This campus, located in a colonial town 200 km south of Quito, is destined to become one of Ecuador's most important centers for cultural education in the country.  ISQ offers Andean highland cultural and outdoor  adventures, gender studies, volcanology, culinary programs, and intensive Spanish. It also functions as a feeder campus for the main campus and offers dozens of classes in diverse areas.  

 

Galapagos Academic Institute for the Arts & Sciences.

USFQ's campus on San Cristóbal, in the famous Galapagos archipelago, is the only institution of higher education on the islands.  GAIAS is the location of annual summits that attract world leaders in science, including Nobel Prize winners.   GALAPAGOS PROGRAMS Marine Ecology full-semester program; People, Politics and the Environment in the Galapagos; Evolution, Ecology & Conservation in the Galapagos.

Tiputini Biodiversity Research Station with Boston University.  A National Geographic journalist called Tiputini one of the most incredible places on earth!  Want to go?  You can arrange it by enrolling in Boston University's Tropical Ecology Program , by enrolling in Kalamazoo's Environment and Ecology classes (includes 22 days in both Tiputini and GAIAS), or (if you represent a university) by establishing a custom-tailored program directly with USFQ's Tipituni Research Station.

 

 


SPECIAL PROGRAMS AT THE CUMBAYÁ CAMPUS

USFQ is the first university in Latin America to embrace Babson College's #1 ranked Entrepreneurialism program. On October 4-6, 2006 twenty-four key professors and administrators received intensive training at the USFQ Cumbayá Campus to promote the entrepreneurial spirit throughout the university's activities. Read a Babson article about this project here To guarantee academic excellence, USFQ works with the Kansas State University-based Individual Development & Educational Assessment Center to develop state-of-the-art Spanish-language assessment tools and reports.  Numerous American universities use this system to document ongoing improvement.

The USFQ Instituto de Música Contemporánea is a Berklee International Network School. This is an extension program of the Berklee College of Music -- quite possibly the most prestigious music school in the world.  The Institute's primary focus is on jazz and uses all Berklee curriculum and materials. The IMC is a driving force influencing music in Latin America - attracting students from Chile, Peru and Colombia.

 

USFQ is the official representative of CISCO Networking Systems in Ecuador.

The International Health Training Center is a project of the College of Health Sciences that arranges specialized residency experiences (e.g. rural or tropical medicine) for international health care professionals.  The Center also offers customized training programs .  (brochure in English here)


The Ceiba Foundation for Tropical Conservation has teamed up with USFQ  to offer this exciting semester-abroad program in applied tropical conservation.  Students participating in this program visit the Galapagos, Amazonia, and the Andes Highlands.

 

 


SPECIAL PROJECTS & ANNUAL EVENTS

This Master's in Science in Sustainable Energy Development is offered in conjunction with the University of Calgary, Canada & The Canadian International Development Agency.

3rd World Summit - 2007 World Summit on Colonialism, in collaboration with the University of Georgetown.  This event will be accompanied by 15 free public pre-conferences


Award winning economist Robert Friedman, in conjunction with the USFQ Business School, offers a public seminar.

 

2nd World Summit - 2006 World Summit on Physics: Beyond the Standard Model, which included pre-conferences given free in Quito as a public service.

ECODESS - Funded by United States National Institute of Health / National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and carried out in conjunction with UC Berkely and Trinity College Researchers

1st World Summit - 2005 World Summit on Evolution to commemorate 100 years since Darwin's visit to the Galapagos Islands.  Held at USFQ's GAIAS Campus.

 

 

The DØ Experiment - Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (project on which USFQ co-founder Bruce Hoeneisen conducts research)

 

8th Annual International Forum on Architecture:  New (York) Architects  
Every year USFQ's architecture department hosts a cutting-edge internationally acclaimed forum on architecture -- attended by architects from not only all of the region, but from all over the world.

USFQ is committed to this newest and most exciting area of research which offers so much promise in the areas of health, medicine,  psychology, and education.  The university's collection of books on the topic is unsurpassed in the region.

 

   

 


OTHER INTERNATIONAL EVENTS


April 3, 2007 - The USFQ Instituto de Musica Contemporanea - a Network Member of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA - hosts the Annandale Jazz Ambassadors - a jazz big band comprised of middle and high school students from Virginia, U.S.A.!
USFQ was the host of the 1st International Symposium on Telemedicine and E-health, Nov 15-16, 2006. 

USFQ hosted the 1st International Seminar on Sensory Analysis as an Industrial Tool for professors of food sciences on Feb 2-3, 2007.

USFQ was the host of the 15th Latin American Congress of Industrial Engineering Students - Oct 30-Nov 3, 2006.
