Professional Profile

Antonio Leon-Reyes obtained his bachelor's degree in Agribusiness and Chemistry from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ, Ecuador). His academic journey continued with a master's degree in Plant Breeding and Genetic Resources at Wageningen University & Research (The Netherlands) and a Ph.D. in Plant-Pathogen Interactions at Universiteit Utrecht (The Netherlands). Currently, he serves as a professor of Agriculture and Food Science at USFQ. His research is centered around fortifying the plant immune system through systemic resistance elicitors and investigating molecular patterns that govern mineral nutrition to enhance plant self-defense. Antonio has actively contributed to conferences and has published extensively in high-impact international journals. His valuable research experience includes positions at prestigious institutions such as Universiteit Utrecht (Netherlands) and Universiteit Gent (Belgium).
