Professional Profile

Fadya Orozco Terán, is a Doctor in Public Health from the Institute of Public Health of the Federal University of Bahia in Brazil, and has a Master's Degree in Public Health and Development from the Tropical Institute of the Netherlands. In 2008, she was awarded the International Development Research Center (IDRC) Global Health Leadership Program as one of the Global Health Leaders. She graduated in medicine from the Central University of Ecuador and has studied community medicine, gender, and traditional Andean medicine. She has led programs and projects in health promotion, intersectoral, applied, and participatory interdisciplinary public policies in health and agriculture, biodiversity and nutrition, health rights, sexual and reproductive health, citizen oversight, and social participation.
 
Fadya has actively participated in international research centres and closely collaborated with various applied research projects with professors from prestigious universities worldwide. In addition, she was the National Secretary of Promotion, Prevention and Equality in the Ministry of Health of Ecuador and director of the Master's Training Program in Public Health at the San Francisco de Quito University. She currently works as a research professor at the same university; as such, she leads the SEMILLA prenatal cohort scientific research study in Cayambe, one of the first studies of its kind in Ecuador.
