To obtain a scholarship for Film studies

Description

In order to promote audiovisual production of films, documentaries, series, and other formats among young Ecuadorians, the USFQ Bachelor's in Film, which includes majors in a) Fiction and Documentary, and b) Series and New Media, organizes the Turning Point Contest for high school seniors from schools legally recognized by the Ministry of Education of Ecuador.

The winner of the Turning Point Contest will obtain a scholarship of up to 100% in fees to study a Bachelor's in Film in USFQ's College of Communications and Contemporary Arts. The scholarship does not include enrollment fees. The winner of this scholarship must observe the regulations indicated by the university and comply with the conditions established in the Scholarship Regulations of the Turning Point Contest.

Turning Point Contest Rules

  1. All students who are enrolled as high school seniors may participate in the contest. Participation will be individual. To participate, each applicant must complete an online Registration Form at the following link: http://puntodegiro.usfq.edu.ec and send a copy of their citizenship card, student card, or any document that proves their identity by email (jaranof@usfq.edu.ec). Applicants can register until May 15, 2020.
  2. All participants must have successfully taken and passed the academic aptitude test for entrance into USFQ (with a minimum score of 1,900 points on the PAA exam) by May 9th. ONLY those who obtain the indicated score or higher may compete.
  3. The contest consists of producing a short film between 3 to 5 minutes long within the following categories:

    a) fiction short film,
    b) experimental short film, and
    c) music video.

  4. Participants must send the video with an mp4 file extension through an online delivery service (such as WeTransfer) or in the form of a link, to the email address of Professor Javier Arano (jaranof@usfq.edu.ec) before from 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24th, 2020. All videos received after that date and time will not be considered. The participating shorts must be in MP4 format.
  5. A jury made up of professors from the USFQ Film School will nominate 3 to 5 finalists. The short films received will be evaluated based on the following criteria: history, technical quality, performance, editing, and sound.
  6. The jury will then personally interview (physically or online) each of the nominated finalists.
  7. On Friday, May 29th, the short films will be uploaded to the page http://puntodegiro.usfq.edu.ec and the contest winner will be announced.
  8. The contest winner will obtain a scholarship of up to 100% to study a Bachelor's in Film for four years. Second and third places will be awarded a prize and a diploma.
  9. The University reserves the right to award the scholarship or to declare the contest void if it considers that the quality of the works presented does not reach the minimum required. The Jury's decisions are unappealable.
  10. The winner of the Turning Point scholarship Contest must confirm their acceptance by Monday, June 8th, 2020. They must also have successfully taken and passed, by May 9th, the academic aptitude test for entrance into USFQ (with a minimum score of 1900 points on the PAA exam). In case of not reaching the established scores, the University reserves the right to deliver the scholarship (or not).
  11. The scholarship winner must apply and enter the university in the year 2020-2021. USFQ does not save or reserve scholarships for subsequent years.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: If the situation in the country requires that we all continue to comply with the quarantine in our homes during the month of May, videos made within the physical limits of applicants' homes will be accepted and the jury will consider this creative limitation when evaluating them. Under no circumstances will we accept shorts that have violated the quarantine in effect at the time of production in any way.
