The Euclid Scholarship aims to promote scientific research, stimulate intellectual development, and promote the study of Mathematical Sciences in Ecuadorian youth. The scholarship is awarded through a contest to the students who obtain the best scores, providing an additional stimulus to those students who reach the first places in the National Olympics of the SEdeM (Ecuadorian Mathematical Society), in the youth category 3 and in the OMEC Olympics (Ecuadorian Mathematical Olympics).

  • Two Euclid scholarships covering 85% of fees to study Mathematics at USFQ.
  • One Euclid scholarship covering 70% of fees to study Mathematics at USFQ.

These scholarships may only be used to study Mathematics at USFQ.

Contest Rules

  • The following will be candidates for this scholarship:
    Students who have participated in the SEdeM Olympics for the current year and have received gold, silver, or bronze medals in the youth category 3. In the case of medalists of the last SEdeM Olympiad who are High School Juniors, the medal will be taken into account to participate in the call for the Euclid contest for the year 2021.

    Students who show interest in the Mathematics degree, who are enrolled as High School Seniors in institutions legally recognized by the Ministry of Education of Ecuador and who have completed their studies a maximum of one year prior to the date of application. Applicants may not have previously been enrolled in any other university or institute.

  • To access the Euclid scholarship, students must complete the following stages of the contest:
    STAGE A: Take and pass the academic aptitude test (PAA), for entrance into USFQ, with a minimum score of 1900/2400.

    The minimum score in the math section is 740/800. The deadline to take the PAA exam is May 30th, 2020.

    STAGE B: Register before June 15th, 2020 in order to participate in the Euclid contest and take the exam organized by the Evaluation Committee. If the student is a medalist from SEdeM or OMEC, they must also contact the Mathematics coordinator, Andrea Moreira within 15 working days from the official publication of the results of the Olympics to confirm their intention to participate in the Euclid Scholarship contest.

    STAGE C: Take the competition exam and a personal interview organized by the Contest Evaluation Committee.

  • About scores: The final score in the contest will be the sum of the partial scores obtained in each of the stages. Being medalists from SEDEM or OMEC will contribute additional points in the contest, but will not exclude other participants.
    In case of not reaching the scores established in the admission exam, the University reserves the right NOT to deliver the scholarship to said contestant.
  • The Contest Evaluation Court will be made up of three or more members of the USFQ Mathematics Department. The results of the evaluation and selection of the scholarship winners carried out by this Court will be final. Scholarship winners will be informed of this decision.
  • Scholarship Acceptance:
    Each winner of a Scholarship from this Contest must communicate their acceptance to the Evaluation Court up to a maximum of 10 working days after the announcement of the results.

    Winning students of the Euclid contest must enroll in the USFQ Mathematics program within the time limits described below. After that period, the scholarship will be considered canceled.

    • Before August 2020 for students who are High School Seniors of the Sierra regime and those who already have a high school degree at the time of the contest.
    • Before August 2021 for students who are High School Seniors of the Costa regime.

    Failure to comply with any of the scholarship acceptance procedures mentioned here will be understood as the non-acceptance of the same by the winner, so the Contest Evaluation Court may reassign the scholarship to another participant or leave it vacant, without this generating the right to a claim of any kind.

  • The Evaluation Court reserves the right to declare the Competition void for one or more of the Scholarships offered.
