Beca Terra Mater 2021

The College of Science and Engineering of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, with the aim of promoting scientific research and encouraging the ingenuity and creativity of young Ecuadorians interested in the study of environmental issues, has awarded the Terra Mater Scholarship. This scholarship is aimed at students who demonstrate academic excellence and want to enter the world of research on environmental issues.

Awards

A scholarship to study at the College of Science and Engineering in the field of Environmental Engineering, with 100% coverage of fees to the first place in the Terra Mater Scholarship Selection Contest.

The value of the scholarship awarded is subject to change according to the application of the Tariff Regulations.

Requirements

  • Students in their 3rd year of high school or students who have finished their studies a maximum of one year prior to the application date.
  • These applicants may not have been enrolled in any other university or institute.
  • Have a minimum average of 9/10 in the last year of studies.
  • Take the virtual admission exam with a minimum score of 1600/2400, until March 27, 2021.
  • Obtain first place in the Terra Mater Scholarship Selection Contest

 

Registration for the Terra Mater Scholarship is free of charge and is done through the website.

Contest Rules

  1. 3rd year high school students from all schools legally recognized by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Ecuador or
  2. Students who have completed their studies a maximum of one year prior to the date of application.
    These applicants may not have been enrolled in any other university or institute.
  3. Have a minimum average of 9/10 in the last year of study.
  4. Participation in the competition will be individual. Each student must register on the registration page by Thursday, April 15, 2021. There is no cost to register for the Contest.
  5. The Contest will consist of two (2) stages. The first stage consists of a Seminar and the second stage consists of theoretical and practical exams, and an interview with the Qualifying Jury. The Seminar will present research carried out by our Environmental Engineering professors in the following areas:
    • Water
    • Air
    • Solid waste
    • Sustainability
    The conferences will be held from 9:00 - 12:00 on Friday, April 23, 2021.
  6. On the second day (Saturday, April 24, 2021), students will take a 60-question multiple-choice theory test on the information presented the day before and an experimental test in the Environmental Engineering Laboratories. Students must present their identity card, student ID, passport or any photo identification. The theoretical test will begin at 9:00 a.m. on April 24, 2021 and will last 90 minutes and cannot be extended. The practical test will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on the same day.
    During the conferences, students will have to take notes of what they consider necessary. It is suggested that students prepare in advance of the Seminar and the test by reviewing environmental engineering texts available in the market. The texts that the Organizing Committee suggests for the study are

  7. From 14h00 on April 24th, 2021, interviews will be held with the Qualifying Jury made up of the Environmental Engineering professors and a representative of the Dean of the College of Science and Engineering.
  8. The Qualifying Jury will make its final and unappealable decision based on the following score

  2. The Qualifying Jury reserves the right to declare the Competition void if it considers that the level of the students' knowledge is not adequate.
  3. The student's results will be published on Friday, May 07, 2021 on the website of the College of Science and Engineering.
  4. The student who is awarded the Terra Mater Scholarship must have satisfactorily completed and passed the virtual admission test for admission to the USFQ with a minimum score of 1600/2400 points, until March 27, 2021.
  5. Students who are awarded the Terra Mater Scholarship must confirm their acceptance of the scholarship until May 14, 2021 to both Valeria Ochoa, coordinator of the Environmental Engineering career, and Susana Coronel of the USFQ Scholarship Office. In case of not reaching the established scores, the University reserves the right not to award the Terra Mater Scholarship.
  6. The USFQ does not keep or reserve scholarships for future years.
