Juan Carlos Collantes, Ph.D., earned his doctoral degree in Molecular Biosciences from Rutgers University (United States), where he pioneered a next-generation molecular platform for genetic engineering based on the CRISPR system. As a professor and researcher in the Biotechnology Department at Universidad San Francisco de Quito (Ecuador), Dr. Collantes conducted postdoctoral research at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (Rutgers University, United States). His current collaborations involve research projects related to molecular detection of zoonotic pathogens and the development of biosensors for monitoring metabolic diseases. Notably, Dr. Collantes holds patents for therapeutic applications against various types of cancer and immunological diseases, and he received the Edison Patent Award in Biotechnology for his groundbreaking work.
