Professional Profile
Stella de la Torre obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, and her MS and PhD degrees in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has more than 20 years of experience at Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ). For 14 years she was Dean of the College of Biological and Environmental Sciences, where she is professor and researcher. Stella directs the “Primates, Forests and People” project and the Laboratory of Ecology and Behavior at USFQ. She is an ecologist with 35 years of experience in research, teaching and project coordination. Her research interests focus on behavioral ecology, population and ecosystem ecology, and conservation. She is part the IUCN SSC Primate Specialist Group and of the executive committee of the Latin American Society of Primatology.
