Dr. Torbey received his training in Neurocritical Care and Vascular Neurology at Johns Hopkins University. In 2003, He moved to the Medical College of Wisconsin to lead the Stroke Critical Care program. In 2006, He became the Associate Chief for the Neurosciences Signature program. In 2009, he was appointed as the Neurosciences Signature Program Clinical Research Director. In 2011, Dr. Torbey joined the Ohio State University as the Medical Director of the Neurovascular Center and Vice Chair for Hospital Affairs..
He is involved in both basic and clinical research with a translational focus on neuroprotection in ischemic and traumatic brain injury. His laboratory has been continuously funded since 2003 by the Department of VA, NIH and DOD. He is currently the PI on two regional clinical networks NIH awards: NETT and StrokeNET. He has been heavily involved with the Society of Critical Care Medicine and currently server on the Annual Meeting Planning Committee. He currently also serve as the President of the Neurocritical Care Society.
He is committed to the delivery of high quality care by development of evidence based guidelines based patient care management and incorporating clinical research and its applications to the stroke and neurocritical care patient populations. He strongly believes in multidisciplinary team management as the key to success in delivery care in the ICU.
