Congreso de Investigación en Materiales y Aplicaciones, CIMA El Congreso de Investigación de Materiales y Aplicaciones, CIMA, es un evento bianual organizado por el Instituto de Energía y Materiales de la USFQ que promueve la difusión y el intercambio de conocimientos en el área de materiales convocando a investigadores internacionales y locales a mostrar sus trabajos más recientes. El CIMA 2026, en su quinta edición, tendrá lugar en la isla de San Cristóbal en Galápagos, en las instalaciones de la USFQ. El congreso generará un impacto significativo en el avance del conocimiento científico a través de la presentación de investigaciones de frontera, la discusión de metodologías innovadoras, y el intercambio de experiencias entre investigadores de diferentes disciplinas y países. La convergencia de expertos internacionales en un entorno único permitirá la generación de nuevas ideas y enfoques interdisciplinarios. Con la participación de estudiantes de pregrado y posgrado, el evento contribuirá significativamente a la formación de la próxima generación de científicos especializados en materiales. La experiencia inmersiva en Galápagos proporcionará a los participantes una perspectiva única sobre la aplicación de materiales en contextos de conservación y sostenibilidad. The Congress of Research in Materials and Applications, CIMA, is a biennial event organized by the USFQ Institute of Energy and Materials. It promotes the dissemination and exchange of knowledge in the field of materials, inviting international and local researchers to showcase their most recent work. The 2026 edition of CIMA, its fifth, will take place on San Cristóbal Island in the Galapagos, at the USFQ campus facilities.

The congress will generate a significant impact on the advancement of scientific knowledge through the presentation of cutting-edge research, the discussion of innovative methodologies, and the exchange of experiences among researchers from different disciplines and countries. The convergence of international experts in such a unique environment will foster the generation of new ideas and interdisciplinary approaches. With the participation of undergraduate and graduate students, the event will contribute significantly to the training of the next generation of materials scientists. The immersive experience in the Galapagos will provide participants with a unique perspective on the application of materials within the contexts of conservation and sustainability.

Important: To register for the CIMA 2026 Congress, please complete the registration form using the "1. Registration Form" link provided on the page. After completing your registration, make the payment through the "2. Payment Button" link included on the page. Once the payment is made, send a copy of the receipt to the following emails: clopezm@usfq.edu.ec and cyepez@usfq.edu.ec, including your full name and contact information.

Call for Papers

On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 5th Congress of Research in Materials and Applications, CIMA 2026, organized by the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) and its Institute of Energy and Materials, we are delighted to invite you to attend and/or participate as presenters in our event, and to publish your scientific article(s) in a dossier of an indexed scientific journal (to be announced).

CIMA is a biennial event that, in its fifth edition, will feature five days of conferences in October 2026, in the city of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, San Cristóbal Island, at the USFQ Galapagos Campus.

The program will combine academic sessions in the morning and evening with free time during the day, allowing attendees to visit the islands' main attractions. The conferences are designed as small-format academic meetings, highly interactive and oriented toward in-depth technical dialogue.

The audience includes researchers in the field of materials and manufacturing, professionals and representatives from the business sector, as well as undergraduate and graduate students from Ecuador and various other countries.

The main objective of the event is to promote the dissemination and close exchange of knowledge among attendees, and to foster collaborative research and development initiatives.

The event themes are open to promoting collaborations in the areas of: Nanomaterials, Natural Materials with Industrial Applications, Advanced Construction Materials, Polymers, Advanced Materials Engineering Applications, Wear and Corrosion Solutions, Energy Materials, Additive Manufacturing Processes, and Miscellaneous.

Abstracts must be uploaded through the congress registration tab in either Spanish or English by May 1st, 2026. These will undergo a review and approval process for presentation at the congress and/or publication. The organizing committee will send an email indicating the next steps once the abstracts have been reviewed.
