FAQs

All information related to your orientation is sent to your institutional and personal email three or four weeks before the start of classes. It is essential to configure your USFQ account as soon as possible to receive all the details of your orientation.

There is no penalty if you cannot attend your orientation. Orientation is an event designed to familiarize students with USFQ and help them make the most of their experience.
As part of the orientation process, all new students are assigned to one of the 10 University Houses. In the email with your orientation information, you will also receive the welcome letter from your University House. If you are already a USFQ student and did not receive your University House letter, you can write to the following email: orientacion@usfq.edu.ec.
Class schedules are predetermined for first-semester students and are sent to your institutional email one or two weeks before the start of classes. If you have any concerns about your schedule, you can contact soporteacademico@usfq.edu.ec.
USFQ requires students from all programs to demonstrate proficiency in the English language equivalent to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, which corresponds to level 6 of English, course code ESL, in the Department of Foreign Languages DLE at the University.
The mechanisms for demonstrating proficiency are as follows:

A. Present within the first semester of studies the diploma or certificates of International Baccalaureate English courses or Advanced Placement courses at the OASA Office of USFQ (oasa@usfq.edu.ec). This option is only valid if notarized copies or school-stamped copies verifying completion and approval of these studies, along with a copy of your ID, are presented.

B. Present the results of international English language exams IELTS, TOEFL iBT, or Cambridge English at the OASA Office of USFQ (oasa@usfq.edu.ec). Only exams taken up to two years prior will be accepted. This option is only valid if notarized copies of the results, along with a copy of your ID, are presented.

Based on the results obtained, the corresponding English level will be validated according to the equivalence table for English placement levels maintained by the Office of Academic Affairs and Services OASA. The process requires payment and initiation of a homologation process in accordance with current regulations.

*ATTENTION: If you were admitted to the International Relations program, it is essential that you take the proficiency exam at USFQ during the week before classes start or present the required documents to demonstrate your proficiency level during orientation week. This way, you can be enrolled by the University in the English level you need to take in your first semester of studies. Otherwise, your registration in this level cannot be processed, and you will not be able to take other courses offered in English for this program starting from your second semester of studies. Failure to meet this requirement could prolong the duration of your studies.

LEOs are Student Leaders of Orientation who are USFQ students and will accompany you throughout the various orientation activities, promoting interaction in your University House.

University Houses

In line with the spirit of Liberal Arts, University Houses were established in 2016. They are a part of the hidden curriculum, aimed at fostering friendships among students to enhance the sense of university community. As a result, the University Houses bring together students from different majors to build bonds of solidarity and friendship, improving social interaction among them. Each semester, hundreds of new students become part of the USFQ Community to pursue studies in over fifty majors, guided by the philosophy of Liberal Arts. Within this context, social interaction among future professionals from the ten colleges is of paramount importance.
