Professional Profile

Leo Zurita Arthos holds a Ph.D. in Geography from King's College London (United Kingdom). He is the Director of the GEOcentro at Universidad San Francisco de Quito (Ecuador), as well as a professor of GIS and Remote Sensing, Environmental Monitoring, and Project Planning at the College of Biological and Environmental Sciences. His research involves mapping and modeling ecosystem services at the regional and global levels, applying and developing relevant geotechnologies and scientific research in spatially explicit models and decision support; monitoring changes in forest cover using remote sensing; and monitoring key species for the conservation of ecosystems in the Galápagos. He has experience in technical work and training in the use of geotechnologies for indigenous peoples and nationalities in Ecuador and Latin America, empowering them for appropriate land management to provide spatial responses for informed decision-making.
