Sofía Barrera Suárez graduated in Biotechnology from the San Francisco de Quito University (USFQ, Ecuador). She obtained a Master's degree in Microbiology and also holds a Master's degree in Psychopedagogy from the agreement between the International University of Ecuador and Nebrija University (Spain). She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education at the National University of Rosario (Argentina). She works as a Biology professor at USFQ, specializing in the fields of Biology and Genetics. Her research has primarily focused on antibiotic resistance in bacteria and the horizontal transfer of resistance genes. She has contributed to projects related to Histology and the skin structure of frogs at the Animal Health Laboratory of the Institute of Tropical Biodiversity (IBIOTROP). Her main interest lies in improving pedagogical techniques for science education. She is also interested in Molecular Biology, histological techniques, and Microbiology.
