Language, Culture and Communication
Ecuador, with its impressive array of indigenous languages, a sign language and very diverse regional variants of Spanish, offers an unparalleled setting for exploring and studying the vast linguistic diversity. However, despite this richness, opportunities to study linguistics at the university level in the country have historically been limited. The minor in Language, Culture and Communication offered by the Universidad San Francisco de Quito stands out as one of the first academic programs dedicated to filling this gap.
The study of language is crucial to a wide range of disciplines focused on human communication, including anthropology, education, liberal arts, psychology, international relations, communication, journalism, and music, among others. This minor represents a valuable opportunity for students interested in delving deeper into the study of language and communication, specializing in linguistic methodologies applicable to different academic fields. The concentration has a foundation in social linguistics, and is complemented by courses from anthropology, communication, education, philosophy and literature, thus offering a comprehensive and multidisciplinary education.
To complete the sub-specialization, students must meet the following requirements:
Complete 5 subjects of the academic curriculum of the subspecialty, considering that 2 courses (MED 3008E and MED 1006) are mandatory and 3 are elective.
With the help of the Academic Coordinator of Medicine, a personalized Study Plan can be developed for each student. In this way a logical academic sequence will be followed for optimal student learning.
The Minor in Biomedicine will only be offered to students who meet the following requirements:
- Have a minimum overall GPA of 3.00.
- Have no Academic Status in any period of their status as a student.
- Have no complaints (in the student's name) with the Dean of Students.
