Research
The Subspecialization in Research is an academic program that allows undergraduate students to acquire knowledge and skills in research methods and techniques. This subspecialization is aimed at all USFQ students interested in the field of research. The program's objectives are to enrich students' profiles, develop research projects under the supervision of selected USFQ researchers as mentors, and strengthen students' academic credentials. The subspecialization seeks to prepare students for graduate studies or to develop a career in fields that require research skills, such as medical, biological, social sciences, humanities, engineering, etc.
Interested students may apply to the program starting in the second year of their studies, allowing them to complete the subspecialization in a minimum of 4 semesters, depending on the duration of their degree. Each student will present their interests and motivations regarding various research topics proposed by USFQ researchers, who will select the most suitable student to lead each project.
Depending on the theme of each research project, a proposal will include 4 theoretical courses and 4 research practices with the mentor researcher. Each theoretical course is worth three credits, except for the practical ones, and they fulfill the requirements of a specific degree or academic area.

- The Research Practices are graded on a Pass or Fail scale and must be passed with a Pass.
- Theoretical Courses proposed for each research project in the Minor must be passed by the student with a minimum grade of B.
To be part of the Subspecialization (Minor) in Research, a group of professors with research experience will work with students who meet specific requirements. The process is outlined below:
- Invitation to Researchers: The Minor Coordination invites prominent researchers to submit proposals for research projects that require student participation.
- Student Application: Students who wish to participate present their interests and motivations regarding the proposed research topics.
- Student Selection:
- The mentors select the most suitable student for each project.
- Each professor can accept a maximum of two students per annual call and have a maximum of five students simultaneously as a mentor in the Minor in Research.
- A project can have a maximum of two students.
Additional Requirements
- Minimum Cumulative GPA: 3.2 at the time of application.
- Approved Credits: At least 60 credits to start the Minor.
- GPA Maintenance: Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 throughout the program.
To pass the Subspecialization (Minor) in Research, in addition to completing theoretical and practical courses, students must:
Publish (or submit for publication), exhibit, or present the academic product resulting from their research, as applicable to the type of research:
- For scientific research, the standard expected product is a completed scientific article, which must be approved by the mentor, with both the student and the mentor as co-authors.
- For creative research, an exhibition of the work or presentation of the final product must be conducted.
