Professional Profile

Valeria Ochoa-Herrera is a Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at Universidad San Francisco de Quito USFQ, Ecuador, and an Adjunct professor in Environmental Sciences and Engineering Department at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA. She is currently the Environmental Office Coordinator at USFQ. Previously, she was the Dean of the School of Engineering, Science and Technology at Universidad del Rosario, Colombia and the Vicedean of the College of Science and Engineering at USFQ, Ecuador. Valeria served as the Co-Director of the Innovation and Sustainability Office at USFQ, she is also founding member of the Women in Science and Engineering initiative WISE-USFQ and Society of Women Engineers at USFQ (SWE-USFQ). She has created a multidisciplinary research group focus on mitigation and remediation of contaminated effluents in vulnerable areas in Ecuador (Highlands/Galápagos/Amazonia) and Colombia (San Andres) and an applied research group oriented to the development of innovative and sustainable remediation strategies. She has conducted research projects in water quality with emphasis on emerging contaminants, bioremediation of domestic and industrial effluents (mining) and sustainability in collaboration with international universities in United States, Canada, France, Belgium, Mexico and Colombia.
