Professional Profile
Consuelo Fernández-Salvador, associate professor in the Department of Anthropology at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, holds a Ph.D. in Development Studies from the International Institute of Social Studies-Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her research endeavors have predominantly centered on ethno-politics, extractivism, and development, particularly in the context of large-scale mining in the southern Amazon Region of Ecuador. As a co-editor and co-author of significant works, including "La Amazonía Minada: Minería a Gran Escala y Conflictos en el Sur del" (2017 USFQ Press-Abya Yala) and "The Tropical Silk Road: The Future of China in South America" (2022-Stanford Press), Fernández-Salvador remains actively engaged in collaborative research concerning organizational cultures, community tourism, and the impact of Chinese mega-infrastructure on local populations. Currently serving as the coordinator for Ecuador in the SolPan Latin American Consortium, she contributes to the research project "Solidarity in times of COVID19".
