Esteban Mayorga holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic Letters from Boston College (United States). He is a professor of Literature and Creative Writing at the University San Francisco de Quito (USFQ, Ecuador). His research areas include travel writing, contemporary transatlantic fiction, and the teaching of Hispanic language and culture. Esteban is the author of the essay "Galápagos: Imaginaries and Textual Evolution in the Enchanted Islands" (Purdue U. Press 2019), the Spanish teaching text "Chronicles of Latin America: Non-fiction Narrative" (Routledge 2019), and fiction books such as "Un Cuento Violento" (El Conejo 2008, Gallegos Lara Award, short story category), "Vita Frunis" (Ministry of Culture of Ecuador 2010; La Caracola 2014; Editorial Cuneta Chile 2018, Pablo Palacio National Award 2009), "Soplen vientos y a romper mejillas" (Festina Lente 2020, Gallegos Lara Award, short story category), and "Que el aliento sea pobre y el habla incapaz" (Festina Lente 2023, winner of USFQ competitive funds and creative fund).
