Juan Pablo Albán Alencastro, an Ecuadorian legal professional, graduated with a Law degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador and a Master’s Degree in International Human Rights Law from the University of Notre Dame Law School, where he is currently a Doctoral Candidate in International Human Rights Law. With a tenure of 13 years as a Professor of Law at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (Ecuador) Law School and the Director of the Public Interest Clinics since 2019, he has a rich background. Prior to this, he served for nine years as a Senior Human Rights Specialist at the Secretariat of the Inter American Commission on Human Rights. Mr. Albán has also been involved in human rights courses in various graduate programs across the Americas and Europe. Notably, he was elected as a Foreign Expert of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace in Colombia in December 2017 and, in June 2021, was elected as a Member of the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances and appointed Committee’s Rapporteur. He is associated with several international organizations, serving as an advisor or expert witness in the fields of criminal, constitutional, international, and human rights law.
