Submission Guidelines

There are two types of submissions:

  • Individual Papers (extended abstracts)
  • Working Papers (posters)

Submissions in each category will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Quality of the research.
  • Contribution to the field of consuer behavior.
  • Interest of the topic to ACR members.

When submitting a paper to this conference, you must agree to be available at any time on both days of the conference (Friday 7/1 or Saturday 7/2) to give your presentation. If you will not be available on one of the days, please arrange for a co-author to give the presentation. We will not consider date/time change requests for presentations unless a presenter has been inadvertently scheduled to give two presentations in the same time slot.

INDIVIDUAL PAPERS (EXTENDED ABSTRACTS)

Individual papers (extended abstract) present completed work and address substantive, methodological, or theoretical topics in consumer behavior. We will be grouping four individual papers into a single 60-minute or 80-minute session, depending on the number of papers in the session. Authors will have 15 minutes to present their work, followed by approximately five minutes for questions.

Individual paper (extended abstract) submissions should include the following:

  • The title of the paper.
  • The name, contact information, and affiliation of the author(s). For multi-author papers, please underline the presenter.
  • A 75-100 word short abstract (for publication in the conference program).
  • A 1500-word extended abstract (12-point Times New Roman, 1-inch margins) that summarizes the motivation, conceptualization, methodology, and major findings (for evaluation by reviewers). The extended abstract should include the number of studies completed, the study procedures, and summary statistics so that reviewers can judge the quality of the research. Incomplete or vague papers in which the quality cannot be ascertained will be rejected.
  • References (JCR style).
  • Figures & Tables. We highly encourage authors to use figures/graphs in addition to the abstract. Figures and tables will not count against the word count of the abstract.

WORKING PAPERS

Working papers report the results of research in its early stages. These projects typically present preliminary results but detail ongoing research on substantive, theoretical, or methodological aspects in consumer psychology research. Though working papers are in the early stages, the quality of the research questions and the methodological rigor should represent those of individual papers. Authors of accepted working papers will present their findings in the form of a poster session, with exact details provided at the time of acceptance decisions.

Working Paper submissions should include the following:

  • The title of the paper.
  • The name, contact information, and affiliation of the author(s). For multi-author papers, please underline the presenter.
  • A 75-100  word short abstract (for publication in the conference program).

Conference Theme

Informed Consumers in an Interconnected World

In today’s marketplace, consumers have access to information like never before. With the rapid development of the Internet, social media, and other related technologies (e.g., smart phones), consumers are able to find information they want much easier and faster than they once could. Some of this information may be locally available, whereas others could transcend borders. Furthermore, with the advancement of digital technology, marketers are using new approaches to satisfy consumers' needs and wants, including enhancing consumption experience using AI, identifying new consumption patterns, and developing new sharing economies. In the meantime, consumers are more and more interconnected due to the prevalence of the Internet. Interpersonal relationships, shopping patterns, and word-of-mouth are affected drastically by new information technologies. It is imperative to understand how consumers deal with such information and utilize it in making product, price, place, and promotion decisions.

A track will be dedicated to submissions that are relevant to the conference theme. Going beyond this theme, we welcome submission on any topic related to consumers. Sessions and papers that look at consumer actions beyond the traditional marketplace are also welcome, including but not limited to political, health, financial, technology, financial, and environmental sustainability domains. We believe that consumer behavior researchers have important contributions to make in these wider spaces where consumers spend their everyday lives.

In our acceptance decisions, all regions of the world will be represented, with special emphasis on Latin America.

Getting to know Quito

Mitad del mundo

City tour and sightseeing: A half-day tour to the city of Quito is included in the conference program at the last day of the conference, Saturday July 2th. This tour is optional for the attendees to the conference. However, this is a unique opportunity to enjoy the wonders that Quito offers to visitors.

Metropolitan Touring, the most well-known tourist operator in Ecuador, will provide the services to participants to the conference to explore the UNESCO- listed Historic center of Quito (the old city). The tour includes a visit to several monuments, plazas, majestic buildings, churches, and museums. The trip will continue to San Antonio de Pichincha, a small town near Quito, to visit the Equatorial monument. This is, the exact place in which the French scientific team determined the line that divides the northern and southern hemispheres.

Hotel Information

For ACR LA Conference participants, we recommend booking a room at Swiss Hotel Quito. When USFQ organizes major events—the 2022 ACR LA Conference will be one of them—special rates and complimentary services (e.g., breakfast) are negotiated with the hotel. Currently, the average rate is $90 per night for a single room. Conference participants have access to a shuttle that will take them from the hotel to the conference venues and USFQ campus.

Swiss Hotel is located 7 miles from USFQ campus (a 26-minute drive) and 24 miles from Quito´s International Airport (a 45-minute drive). This location is very convenient, as conference participants might want to enjoy the city of Quito, as well as being near the USFQ campus.

Other options for conference participants are two hotels located close to Quito´s International Airport, including EB Hotel by Eurobuilding with an average rate per room $150. Windham Quito Airport with an average rate per room $140.

If participants are willing to enjoy a more local experience and use bed & breakfast type of accommodations, www.booking.com and www.airbnb.com offer plenty of options. Within the search options use “Cumbayá”.
