Description

The Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts accompanies students in the development of their personal ideas through a curriculum that promotes flexibility in their development as producers of significant artistic works in multiple formats. Our study spaces are rigorous, both in theory and in workshops, always paying attention to the inseparable links between conceptual reflection and artistic practice. Our students transform their deep and complex ideas into relevant pieces for their personal growth and for their environment, reaching their maximum potential as thoughtful and creative citizens.

The Bachelor of Visual Arts offers two emphasis: Visual Arts and Fashion Design.

Description

The Emphasis in Visual Arts includes all the stages of the creative process: the observation of the world and ourselves, the development of ideas, the learning of different languages, technical experimentation, interdisciplinary research, and reflection. This is an interconnected process that results in the production of works in different media, in which relevant personal or collective questions are evident.

The study spaces promote reflection on artistic processes and allow to think, build, and reconstruct the different artistic proposals of art history, as well as those pertinent to students' own creations. Likewise, students learn to evaluate the works of others and to review, analyze, and evaluate their own creations.

The program includes cultural management as a non-detached process of artistic production. Students constantly conduct montage tests, visit galleries, and produce their own exhibitions. Additionally, there are facilities and professors specialized in new media and advanced technologies, in accordance with the needs and demands of today's world. Creative production is proposed as research in which students and professors consider their creations to be complex, and interrelated processes that help to respond to individual and/or collective artistic needs.

Testimonials

Testimonials from Our Graduates:

“Studying the Arts program at USFQ has prepared me in various ways to face both personal and professional challenges. First, professionally, the combination of practical and theoretical classes gave me the flexibility to develop my own interests in the arts, in my case, working with communities and additionally arts education, to have received a wide range of critical perspectives and ways of creating from my professors, specifically as an educator, to understand and go along with the diverse processes of each student. As I continued my academic life, in my Master's studies, USFQ certainly prepared me with all the necessary critical thinking tools, flexibility, and theoretical foundations. Finally, in my personal life, the Arts program gave me a safe space to explore my identity and form my interests beyond the academic and professional.”

- Denisse Sarzosa -

"My main achievements have been the publication of the photographic book 'Los que se quedan' (The Ones Who Remain), winner of the II Prize for Photography at the Rome Festival; the participation in the 6th and 7th edition of the Rome Festival at the Pallazo delle Esposizioni; participation in the NEW YORK PHOTO FESTIVAL 2008 in Dumbo Brooklyn; the IDB MIF Award in Washington USA; the third place in the Buenos Aires Photo; the award of the Salón de Julio de Guayaquil 2008; the Award for Excellence in the Watercolor Triennial of Colombia, and the Paris Prize at the X edition of the Cuenca International Biennial. The University opened its doors to me with a scholarship per portfolio, and from there, all the knowledge of the College of Communications and Arts, including photography as a subspecialization. The professors allowed me to expand my vision of contemporary art and enter into a competitive world of visual artists, and an expanding new market with the advantage of having more tools with which to defend myself. It is worth noting that among these tools are not only individual ones but also collective ones."

Testimonials from Our Students:

“Studying Visual Arts, within COCOA, involves several peculiarities that have undoubtedly changed my perspective on my environment, my being, and art. Being multidisciplinary, which is essential in contemporary art, is the most highlighted aspect about my experience within the career. The expansion of media, theoretical knowledge, and the way professors teach that undoubtedly break with the institutional paradigm, are the singularities of every day. To understand art from the perspective of USFQ is to understand that the message is essential, and to be an artist is to be a good communicator -- a communicator sensitive to practices and theorizing, critical in their constructions and creations and, above all, thoughtful.”
