Educational Research Laboratory (LINE)

About us

The founders are three young professors and researchers from USFQ in the areas of education and psychology, with the common goal of facilitating collaborative processes of educational research, and focused on generating important changes in the educational management of the country.

LINE will seek to offer funding, through IDEA-USFQ, to support USFQ education professors to present their research results at international conferences. In addition, it will seek financing to support the execution of educational research projects in Ecuador.

The procedures for applying for the different types of financing will be published shortly.

Mission

This laboratory seeks to contribute to the improvement of education in Ecuador by promoting educational research.

Objectives
  • Conduct educational and interdisciplinary research (quantitative and qualitative).
  • Disseminate the results of the research in academic media (conferences, indexed magazines, books, etc.) as well as to the general public (magazines, web pages, talks, etc.).
  • Engage education students in educational research projects.
  • Support each other among educational researchers (possible funding, peer review, etc.).

Research

Research interests:

The institute maintains a policy of extremely broad lines of research so that multiple research projects can arise according to the needs and opportunities of the environment, the specialty and the interests of each member of the Institute, among other factors.

What the institute is looking for is high-quality, rigorous, transparent, and ethical research. Ideally, the research will have a practical application and / or will expand our conceptual understanding related to education; however, it is also recognized that this will not always be the case and the practical value of an investigation may not always be known before it is carried out.

Current projects:

  • For the new IDEA-USFQ Community Libraries project, an evaluation was designed from the project design. The information will be used to improve the project but also for research purposes.
  • The IDEA-USFQ College Board Exam Project recently received College Board approval to design associated factor questionnaires and accompany exams taken at various educational institutions in the country. This will allow us to offer valuable information to educational institutions, as well as publish results on correlations between the associated factors that we ask and student academic performance. We have designed the project and are currently in the design phase of a questionnaire on study habits.
  • The first book in the series, Tobar, C. (Ed.). (In press, Notes on education: reflections and actions for the educator. Quito: San Francisco University) is currently in print. The book was edited by Claudia Tobar, and has chapters written by each of LINE's founding members.
  • This year as a team we are in the process of publishing a study on gender and academic performance in 7th-grade students of Basic General Education in Ecuador. Additionally, we will publish a study of college students from ethnic minority groups and academic achievement.
  • Additionally, Claudia and Daniela together with international colleagues are in the process of publishing the following article: Teacher's Attitudes and Practices Regarding Preschool Challenging Behaviors in Latin America.
