Students Residing in the Galapagos Islands

The parameters, conditions, and admissions process of the USFQ Galapagos Extension located in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, San Cristóbal Island, are detailed below and apply to students residing in the Galapagos Archipelago.

ADMISSIONS PROCESS TO GALÁPAGOS PARTIAL IN-PERSON ATTENDANCE MODALITY CAREERS

The objective of the Admissions process of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito USFQ and its Extension is to attract students who, in addition to an excellent academic profile, demonstrate an inquisitive spirit framed in freedom, reflection, and curiosity. The admissions process to the Galapagos Extension of the USFQ to the partial in-person attendance modality careers is composed of tests and the obtaining of certain scores, revision of high school-level academic curriculum, specific exams, interviews, and essays, among others. Compliance with additional requirements and parameters may vary from year to year and may differ in the application of the affirmative action program that is applied to students residing in the Galapagos Islands for the careers of the Extension. For each academic year, the places are defined for new students, for transfers of students from other universities and for internal transfers. The admission of applicants will be subject to the availability of places observing the parameters indicated above. Having obtained the required scores in the admissions tests does not guarantee formal admission to the Extension or to the declared career in the application since admission is subject to a process of analysis and selection. To apply to any undergraduate degree, without exception, the applicant must have a high school diploma awarded by a Highschool educational institution recognized by the Ministry of Education of Ecuador. The applicant for the USFQ Galapagos Extension can choose between two admissions options that are detailed below, notwithstanding that the beginning of the admissions process requires compliance with certain steps common to both options. As the admissions process takes into account various components or elements, as previously indicated, the applicant for the USFQ Galapagos Extension must choose one of the admissions options that will be considered with the other admissions criteria to be admitted in one of the partial in-person attendance modality careers of the USFQ Galapagos Extension.

ATTENTION: USFQ reserves, at all times, the right to verify the authenticity and legitimacy of the documents uploaded by an applicant to the platform or presented during the admissions process. It also reserves the right to follow the corresponding legal actions, without prejudice to denying the continuation of the process or the possibility of future application, as well as, if appropriate, initiating the internal process for violation of the Code of Honor and Coexistence of the USFQ for committing a serious or very serious offense.

OPTION 1: THE ACADEMIC APTITUDE EXAM PAA, WITHIN THE OTHER ADMISSION COMPONENTS

In this option, within the admissions components, the result of the PAA * Academic Aptitude Exam is evaluated, which evaluates aptitude and reasoning skills in mathematics, indirect writing, and verbal aptitude. Each of these three components is assessed out of a maximum of 800 points, which means that the maximum score is 2400 points. The general admissions requirement is to obtain a minimum score of 1500 in the PAA, although the obtained result is assessed together with the other admissions components such as, for example, the grades obtained in the school. As an affirmative action, more favorable conditions may be considered for admission.

* This exam is developed by the College Board for Latin America as an exam equivalent to the SAT, which must be taken by applicants to be admitted to universities in the United States and Canada. On the website of the Extension, the dates of the PAA examination for the Galapagos students are indicated, as well as the registration cost.

ADMISSIONS PROCESS OPTION 1

Step 1: Contact the Admissions Office

1. Anyone interested in studying in one of the partial in-person attendance modality careers at the USFQ Galapagos Extension should contact the Admissions Office by email admisiones@usfq.edu.ec indicating the career of their interest and attaching to the email their Archipelago Residence Card from Galapagos. After verifying residency, the Admissions Office will reply to the applicants informing them to start the process.

Step 2: Starting the USFQ application process

To start the admissions process, the interested person must perform the following actions on the USFQ Admissions Platform:

3. Create a personal account following the instructions;
4. Access the study guide for taking the PAA admissions exam.
5. Complete the application for admission;
6. Reserve a PAA exam date available for Galapagos Extension*.
   1. Saturday, January 18th, 2020
   2. Saturday, April 11th, 2020

*Do not confuse available dates for the continent.

7. Send the request;
8. Pay the amount of $55 of the admissions process that includes taking the PAA exam, through deposit or bank transfer in the checking account No. 7615124 of Banco del Pacífico. Business Name: USFQ (RUC: 1791836154001)
9. Scan and send the proof of payment to the email admisiones@usfq.edu.ec

The email must specify the full names of the applicant, ID number, email, contact telephone number, and home address. If the invoice needs to be issued in the name of another person, the information must be provided in detail.

The applicant will receive via email the confirmation of receipt of payment by the Admissions Office, which will enable the continuation to step 3. Without payment, it is not possible to continue the process and no refunds will be made for not having entered the discount code. The cost of the admissions process is non-refundable, without exception.

Step 3: Attachment of documents

The applicants must attach the following documents through her their "máximo" maximum account within three days after making the admissions process payment:

1. A current color portrait close up picture on a white background, size 3.50x4.00cm;
2. Scanned image of the high school diploma and Graduation Transcript issued by the High School Institution. Applicants who have not yet completed their high school studies must attach the first and second year of high school year passes documentation and the partial grades of the third year, stamped by the high school institution on the date of the application.
3. Color scanned image of the applicant's identity card or citizenship or passport;
4. Color scanned image of your financial representative identity card or citizenship or passport *
5. If the applicants have studied at another university, it is necessary to attach the completed and signed Complementary Form for Applicants who have studied at another university”, as well as the official transcript/ grade report of the university or universities where they have been a student.

ATTENTION: *The legal guardian, appointed representative, the financial or legal representative is responsible for the student's financial obligations to the University and is generally one of the parents. The places for taking the exam are limited for each established date, which is recommended to send the documents well in advance.

Step 4: Confirmation of presentation to the PAA admissions exam

Once the documents have been attached, the applicant will receive an e-mail from the Admissions Office confirming the receipt of the admissions application and the attached documentation, as well as the instructions for taking the admissions exam on the selected date.

Step 5: PAA admissions exam and results

On the day of the admissions exam, the applicants must show an identification document containing a recent photograph that identifies them. Showing a valid ID, passport or license will be accepted.

The PAA Academic Aptitude Exam will be scored abroad. Therefore, the entrance examination results are delivered electronically to the applicants as soon as they are received by the University.

Up to one PAA exam make-up exam can be taken on the dates set by the Admissions Office for entry into the academic year to which you are applying.

Step 6: Admissions notice and Admissions Certificate

Once the analysis and selection process has been completed, the Admissions Office will communicate to each applicant, individually, the results of their admissions process. To confirm acceptance of placement, the applicants admitted to USFQ must sign their Certificate of Admission together with their legal guardian or appointed representative in accordance with the instructions they receive from the Admissions Office, visiting the facilities of the Galapagos USFQ Extension.

By signing the certificate, the applicant and his legal guardian or appointed representative undertakes to comply with and abide by all the terms and conditions of USFQ, the Code of Honor and Coexistence, and other University regulations when the applicant acquires the status of a student through the payment of educational services.

ATTENTION: The original of the signed admission certificate must be delivered to the USFQ Galapagos Extension before classes start in May of the academic year for the applicant to be admitted. Otherwise, it will be considered as the applicant did not accept the admission.

The approved admissions tests are valid for one school year. Therefore, the admitted person can be part of USFQ during the current application period and/or the following school year, as long as the admission parameters have not changed, see section DEFERMENT OR WITHDRAWAL OF ADMISSION. If the applicants wish to be admitted after this period, they must start the entire admission process in accordance with the current regulations by that date.

Step 7: Payment educational services

Registration and fees for the partial in-person attendance modality careers of the Galápagos Extension are done through the Payments Hall of the University's web portal, deposit, or bank transfer in the checking account No. 7615124 of Banco del Pacífico. Business Name: USFQ (RUC: 1791836154001) With the payment, the student’s status is validated. In any case, the students must verify that the data of the career that they will study are correct. If the career does not coincide with the declared career, the student must immediately contact the Admissions Office or visit the Academic Follow-up Office of the Galapagos Extension OASEG.

Step 8: Registration of courses and class schedule

The students must register to their courses through the Banner Academic System in accordance with the sequence established by her curriculum. For this and any other process, the student can request advice from the Academic Follow-up Office of the Galapagos Extension OASEG. The definitive class schedule and course registration can only be done once the registration and tuition fees have been paid.

OPTION 2: MATHEMATICS AND LANGUAGE ASSESSMENTS THROUGH A PROPEDEUTIC COURSE, WITHIN THE OTHER ADMISSIONS COMPONENTS

In this option, within the admissions components, the results of the applicant's mathematical and language knowledge are assessed through exams. Before taking the assessments, the applicant must take the Propaedeutic Course, which aims to offer a space for updating and leveling through the virtual platform "Desire To Learn" (D2L). On the website of the Extension, the dates of the Propaedeutic Course for the applicants to the partial in-person attendance modality careers of the Galapagos Extension are indicated, as well as the date and cost of registration. The USFQ reserves the right to cancel the Propaedeutic Course if a minimum number of participants is not met.

This admission process is exclusively for admission to the partial in-person attendance modality careers of the Galapagos Extension. If students admitted through this process wish to transfer to a career offered on the main campus or change their modality to the in-person or partial in-person attendance modality, they may do so as long as they follow the processes established in this Manual, including taking the PAA exam. It will have the power to ask a student who wishes to re-enter this modality the approval of the orientation course for readmission.

OPTION 2 ADMISSIONS PROCESS

Step 1: Contact the Admissions Office

1. Anyone interested in studying in one of the partial in-person attendance modality careers at the USFQ Galapagos Extension should contact the Admissions Office by email admisiones@usfq.edu.ec indicating the career of their interest and attaching to the email their Archipelago Residence Card from Galapagos. After verifying residency, the Admissions Office will reply to the applicants informing them to start the process.

Step 2: Starting the application process of the USFQ

To start the admissions process, the interested person must perform the following actions on the USFQ Admissions Platform: a. Enter the admissions portal through the following link: https://admision.usfq.edu.ec/

2. Create a personal account following the instructions;
3. Complete the application for admission;
4. Enroll in the Propaedeutic Course within the maximum deadline: January 13, 2020, on the San Cristóbal Extension campus. Course duration dates: January 27 - February 28, 2020.
5. Send the request;
6. Pay the amount of $200 for the Propaedeutic Course through deposit or bank transfer in the checking account No. 7615124 of Banco del Pacífico. Business Name: USFQ (RUC: 1791836154001).
7. Scan and send the proof of payment to the email admisiones@usfq.edu.ec

The email must specify the full names of the applicant, ID number, email, contact telephone number, and home address. If the invoice needs to be issued in the name of another person, detailed information must be provided.

Immediately after having been authorized by the Admissions office for the continuation of the process, the applicants must attach the following documents through their máximo maximum account within three days after making the admissions process payment:

1. A current color portrait close up picture on a white background, size 3.50x4.00cm;
2. Scanned image of the high school diploma and Graduation Transcript issued by the High School Institution. Applicants who have not yet completed their high school studies must attach the first and second year of high school year passes documentation and the partial grades of the third year, stamped by the High school Institution on the date of the application.

Step 3: Confirmation of enrollment in the Propaedeutic Course.

Once the documents are attached, they will receive an email from the Admissions Office confirming the enrollment in the Propaedeutic Course, the receipt of the admission application and the attached documentation, as well as the general instructions for the course.

Step 4: Results of the Propaedeutic Course

To pass the Propaedeutic Course, the applicant must obtain a minimum score of 70/100 in both the Language unit and the Mathematics unit. If the applicants fail one or both units of the Propaedeutic Course, they must restart the process for the following academic year. The applicant will be able to choose the admission option 1 through the PAA exam if it is valid and with an exam date available. To do this, you must start the admission process by following the steps detailed in the OPTION 1 ADMISSION PROCESS section.

Step 5: Admission notification and Admission Certificate

Once the two components of the Propaedeutic Course have been approved and the analysis and selection process has been completed, the Admissions Office will notify all applicants, individually, of the results of their admission process. To confirm acceptance of the placement, the applicants admitted to the USFQ must sign their Certificate of Admission together with their legal guardian or appointed representative in accordance with the instructions they receive from the Admissions Office, visiting the facilities of the Galapagos USFQ Extension. Therefore, the admitted person can be admitted to USFQ during the current application period and/or the following school year, as long as the admission parameters have not changed, see section DEFERMENT OR WITHDRAWAL OF ADMISSION. If the applicants wish to enter after this period, they must start the entire admission process in accordance with the regulations in force for that date.

Step 6: Payment.

The careers enrollment and Tuition fees payment, for educational services for the Galapagos Extension partial in-person attendance modality courses, are made through the Payments Hall of the University's web portal, or through deposit or bank transfer in the checking account No. 7615124 of the Banco del Pacífico. If the payment is made through transfer or deposit, the student must follow the following steps:

1. Access the Payment Hall of the website;
2. Choose the Go to Payments button at the bottom;
3. Choose icon registration and tuition fees;
4. Enter username (student code) and password (# ID);
5. Choose the icon "send receipts";
6. Fill in the requested information and upload the receipt.

With payment, the student’s status is validated. In any case, the students must verify that the data of the career that they will study are correct. If the degree does not coincide with the declared career, the students must immediately contact the Admissions Office or visit the Academic Follow-up Office of the Galapagos Extension OASEG.

Step 7: Registration of courses and class schedule

The registration of courses is done through the Banner platform. Students can request support from the Academic Follow-up Office of the Galapagos Extension OASEG for any process. The definitive class schedule and course registration can only be generated once the registration and tuition fees payments have been processed.
