Professional Profile

Angus Lyall is a political geographer whose research focuses on rural development policy and natural resource governance in the Ecuadorian Andes and Amazon. His teaching promotes learning through collaborative research for academic purposes and in coordination with rural development organizations. He coordinates the community engagement program “Comunas” alongside a team of students from rural areas, conducting participatory action research in their own communities. Lyall’s research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, Fulbright, and the Social Science Research Council, and he has published in leading geography and rural development journals, including "Annals of the American Association of Geographers", "Environment and Planning A: Economy and Space", and "Development and Change", among others. Angus has also worked as a research consultant for various rural development agencies, such as OXFAM, Fairtrade, and Heifer Foundation.
