About us

The Centre for European Studies (CEE) is an academic institution affiliated with the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ). It is dedicated to conducting high-level interdisciplinary research and fostering debates on European affairs within the Ecuadorian context. Led by Régis Dandoy, serving as the Director of the Centre, and Paolo Moncagatta, who holds the position of Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, the CEE stands as Ecuador's premier centre for European studies. Our core focus is on producing, promoting, and disseminating outstanding research on the European Union and European countries. We actively collaborate with socioeconomic and diplomatic stakeholders from Europe who are present in the Ecuadorian territory.

Mission

The CES-CEE aims to generate, foster, and disseminate high-level interdisciplinary research and debates on European affairs in Ecuador.

Vision

The CES-CEE is the first European Studies centre established in Ecuador. In collaboration with European socioeconomic and diplomatic actors operating within Ecuador, our goal is to facilitate academic initiatives related to the EU and European countries. Furthermore, we aspire to become a key research hub on European topics in Latin America and actively engage with existing networks of European Studies centres.

Services

  • Generate high-level research projects and scientific publications on topics related to Europe and the EU at USFQ.
  • Organize and sponsor scientific, academic, and public events focusing on relevant European themes.
  • Provide educational materials, advocate for the integration of European topics into USFQ's curriculum, and contribute to shaping students' awareness of the global significance of the EU, particularly concerning EU-Ecuador relations.
  • Foster the active involvement of UFQ students in CES-CEE's research and publication activities.
  • Establish a network of scholars researching the EU in Ecuadorian universities and research centers through the organization of scientific events.
  • Promote and facilitate participation in EU-funded research and educational programs such as Horizon Europe and Erasmus+.
  • Offer support to visiting researchers from European-based universities.
  • Disseminate and promote European culture and scientific activities.

Call for Papers

First European Studies Congress

The 1st European Studies Congress at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, from November 16th to 17th, 2023, welcomes proposals on European topics from all disciplines.

  • Submit your paper proposal (max. 250 words) in English and Spanish by September 30, 2023.
  • The best papers will be published in the conference proceedings in USFQ Academic Archives.
  • You can also propose a complete panel (composed of 3-5 papers) on a specific topic.
