National Practices and Internships (PASEM)

PASEM Pre-professional Practice, is aimed only at students who are in their last semesters of studies. At PASEM students will learn to know, analyze and practice current tools to participate in organizational selection processes and thus prepare for their future job search. PASEM's objective is to provide information on the importance of developing soft skills that allow students to facilitate their job placement and obtain better professional performance.

To register for the PASEM class, students are expected to have completed 240 hours of pre-professional internships in a career-related work environment at institutions that have an agreement with USFQ. In the event that the student needs to complete the hours of pre-professional practice in an institution that does not have an agreement with USFQ, they should contact: contactoempresarial@usfq.edu.ec

Course General Policies

  1. All courses are governed by the USFQ Student Manual which can be downloaded from the Student Manual
  2. Their behavior during class, as well as all activities related to this course, are governed by the USFQ Honor Code.
  3. All programs must complete the PASEM class as part of the General College.
  4. Students enrolled in a second program must complete a PASEM for each degree.
  5. The class lasts 2 semesters, register only once in the system.

PASEM has two parts:

  1. Pre-professional internship hours
  2. Take PASEM course

a. Pre-professional Practice Hours

  • Students of all majors must complete 240 hours of pre-professional practice related to their area of ​​study. These hours can be developed before or during the PASEM class.
  • The hours can be done from the summer, having finished the third year of studies.
  • The hours of practice must be carried out in institutions that have an agreement with the USFQ, if they do not have one, they must notify contactoempresarial@usfq.edu.ec to manage the agreement.
  • Students who have a permanent job, can present a labor certificate instead of the forms and do all the homework for the course.
  • At the end of the practice hours, the organization must evaluate the student's performance, completing the following documents:
    • PASEM Certificate and Assessment (these documents will be requested during the PASEM class)
  • Students who have formed an OWN COMPANY. They must present: Tax ID and/or Registration in the Superintendency of Companies, and the Constitution of the Company.

Online Student Policies

All online education majors must develop the PASEM class, by completing 160 credits of their mesh. The 240 hours of pre-professional practice related to the study area that are required to take the class, can be replaced by a permanent job presenting a labor certificate plus the essay, as part of the development of the practice hours and continue with all the duties of the course.

Specific Policies

Specific policies by program

ARCHITECTURE students: They can complete their practice hours two summers before graduating.

CONTEMPORARY ARTS students: They can make an exhibition of their works as a business practice. This must be individual and must have covered all areas. Achievement of room, sponsorship, media, etc. Submit all documents to endorse it.

FILM AND VIDEO students: They can use the work done in Fiction Shorts as their practice.

Students in the EDUCATION area. Schools and educational institutions are closed during the summer, therefore, students may work one semester part-time (equivalent to 320 hours of work between classroom-based classes and preparation) in educational institutions or organizations for educational purposes, provided that these hours are not are used for another class.

JURISPRUDENCE students. Your participation in Legal Clinics or Legal Clinics will not be valid. Specific cases approach Business Contact.

MEDICINE AND VETERINARY Students: The Rotating Internship serves to complete 240 hours of pre-professional practice. They must present a certificate of the internship plus the essay, once they have completed the first two months, it is not necessary to end the year of internship to fulfill the PASEM hours. You must fulfill all the homework in the class.

MUSIC students: All music students must request authorization from the race coordinator to validate their PASEM hours.

Case 1: Those who carry out their practice in an organization must bring and upload to d2l in the corresponding duty:

  • PASEM certificate and agreements
  • Essay
  • Letter of approval from the coordinator of the program

Case 2 (specified in the following paragraph): Those who carry out their PASEM practice on a personal level, or making a disc, or cd. They must bring and upload to d2l in the corresponding duty.

  1. The disc or album must be finished and professional material that has been released and marketed in physical and/or digital format. Recorded and produced projects within USFQ will not be validated.
  2. Disc or album is understood as the production or project that contains a minimum of 10 songs or musical works and a minimum duration of 40 minutes. EPs containing at least 5 songs or musical works may be validated, and two EPs will be equivalent to one disc or album.
  3. It is essential to present at least the quantity of a disc or album, or its equivalent in EPs.
  4. The student's participation in the album may be as: composer or author, arranger, instrumentalist or performer, sound engineer, mixing engineer or music producer. Said participation must be a minimum of 10 songs or musical works. In the case of composer or author and arranger, you must also include proof of registration of the works and arrangements in your name.
  5. Projects that have been marketed up to a maximum of 3 years prior to the request for validation will be accepted.
  6. For the validation of the pre-professional practice hours, the student must present a physical or digital medium of the album or disc with their respective art, accompanied by a document containing the date of release or commercialization, the distribution systems or platforms and any document that supports your participation and corresponding credits in it. Said art must be uploaded in the D2L.
  7. PTo validate the hours corresponding to pre-professional practices under the figure of participation in discs, the student must meet all the academic and practical requirements that the PASEM class demands (registration in class, homework, essays, etc.).

Cases to develop PASEM hours

Students who wish to carry out the PASEM hours in an Organization:

  1. Review the list of current agreements (list of agreements), if you do not have an agreement, you must sign the Agreement with the Organization and USFQ. Students who own their own company

  1. Sign the Agreement between your company and USFQ

  3. To validate the hours: Upload the copy of your company's tax ID and your Appointment. Save the documents until taking the class and upload them in the corresponding duty. In class deliver the documents plus the report.

Students who have a permanent job
