Nowadays, it is essential to have financial knowledge for analyzing, planning, and controlling the activities and results of business management. Having fundamental knowledge in finance to make informed decisions, improve performance, and establish effective communication with other executives in this area has become a necessity for professionals without prior training in this field.

The course "Finance for Non-Financiers" covers concepts of financial statement analysis, balance sheets, income statements, cash flow, and introduces elements of applied artificial intelligence. During the classes, participants will learn to implement modern strategies and tactics, including AI techniques for making investments, leveraging financial resources, and improving their ability to assess risks. They will also be able to analyze how employees impact the financial management of the business.

Module: Financial Statements and Financial Analysis

Financial Decision-Making and Key Financial Statements

Analysis of the main financial concepts that lead to a better understanding of a company's situation and support managerial decision-making. The module introduces the use of financial information, sources of information, accounting principles that govern accounting techniques, and finally, the preparation of a company's basic financial statements and the relationships between them.

Financial Indicators

This section presents the concepts and techniques of financial analysis to evaluate a company's financial condition over time. It explores the techniques of comparing different financial items or accounting accounts, which allow for the comparison of financial statements from different companies. The use of key financial ratios published by companies is introduced with the aim of making more informed business decisions.

Module: Analytical Tools and AI for Finance

The Time Value of Money

This topic explains the relationship between money and its value over time. It covers topics such as simple interest, compound interest, annuities, perpetuities, amortizations, present value, and future value; all of which are basic elements that financial managers must apply when analyzing investment or financing options. Simple and practical exercises are used to delve into the financial concepts and techniques utilized.

Financing (Short and Long Term)

This section covers debt management by the treasury and the fundamental concepts for managing cash flow, working capital, and the components of cash flow: operations, investment, and financing. The fundamental concepts for making short- and long-term financing decisions are analyzed.

Workshop: Artificial Intelligence Applied to Finance

Knowledge and immersion in use cases of artificial intelligence in the field of finance. The opportunities offered by artificial intelligence for transformation and efficiency in financial management are analyzed, covering areas such as process automation, fraud detection, data-driven decision-making, and the personalization of financial services, along with practical application of generative AI tools for professional productivity in finance.

Complementary Talks

Aligned with USFQ's Liberal Arts philosophy, where all areas of knowledge are equally relevant and contribute to the development of knowledge, this program includes virtual talks on various current topics. These are open to the general public or are part of other programs. It is a space that enhances the academic content of the program, and attendance is optional.

Business Forum

The business forum is a virtual meeting space for students and panelists; entrepreneurs, businesspeople, professors, and experts who will share their perspectives, trends, and best practices. The forums are held according to the annual schedule and are attended by students from non-degree programs and master's degrees from the School of Business. It is a space that enhances the academic content of the program, and attendance is optional.

Activities

This program includes various activities, such as presentations, practical exercises for real-world application of the concepts presented, workshops, discussions, and more. The program applies an active, participatory, and critical methodology that links theory with practice. Students must access the Desire to Learn (D2L) virtual platform at least 2 hours in advance to familiarize themselves with the study resources and complete the activities. Access to the D2L platform is available from the start of the program until one month after its completion.
