This program aims to provide updated information and training for professionals in the child and adolescent field, specifically in the comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of Attention Deficit Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disorders, and Behavioral Disorders. The program emphasizes the most relevant aspects from Neuropsychology and Psychiatry to provide a broad understanding of each condition.

The importance of this course lies in providing a multidisciplinary and evidence-based approach, considering current advances in understanding and treating these conditions.

General Description

General Objective:

To train professionals from various fields of mental health care in practical, applicable, and updated techniques for child and adolescent care.

Develop skills and abilities in identifying characteristic neuropsychological profiles for accurate diagnosis, the development of individual and family techniques for therapeutic care, and the inclusion and understanding of the most relevant psychiatric aspects in each disorder.


Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the neuropsychology and psychiatry of these childhood and adolescent disorders.
  • Acquire specific tools in the fields of neuropsychological assessment and diagnosis.
  • Practice in case analysis from a comprehensive perspective.
  • Understand the importance of multidisciplinary, creative, and comprehensive work in child and adolescent care.

Target Audience:

This course is aimed at psychologists, neuropsychologists, neurorehabilitation specialists, occupational therapists, and educators interested in a deeper understanding and therapeutic needs of each of these disorders.


Professionals who complete the program will be able to:

  • Enhance their professional practices with updated knowledge in different areas of child and adolescent care, implementing multidisciplinary knowledge into their specialty.
  • Utilize neuropsychological tools for the diagnosis and treatment of such disorders.
  • Implement the necessary therapeutic processes for the comprehensive and multidisciplinary care of children and adolescents.

Course Assessment:

Case Analysis: 40%

Zoom Sessions (attendance and participation): 20%

Final Exam: 40%


Certificate Issuance:

Participants must achieve a minimum grade of 80% at the end of the course to obtain their approval diploma and fulfill a minimum of 80% attendance of the total program to access the approval certificate.

In case of not meeting the percentage, Universidad San Francisco de Quito will not be able to issue certificates, as it is an approval program.

Paloma Sotomayor

Paloma Sotomayor

Bilingual neuropsychologist with specialization in the diagnosis of Mental, Neuropsychiatric, and Neuropsychological Disorders. Extensive experience in neuropsychological assessment and diagnosis of dementia and other cognitive impairment syndromes, childhood and adolescent disorders, pre and post-surgical evaluation in epilepsy, etc. Vast experience as a university lecturer and in specialized courses. Conference speaker and author of several chapters related to neuropsychology.

María Emilia Portilla

Clinical neuropsychologist specialized in neuropsychological therapy. Experience in learning disorders, ADHD, and both acquired and neurodegenerative cognitive impairment. In the educational field, expertise in behavioral strategies aiding management at home and in schools, as well as assisting institutions in personalized learning plans and accompanying strategies.

Claudia Chávez

Psychiatrist from the Catholic University of Ecuador, specializing in child and adolescent psychopathology and psychopharmacology at the National University of Chile. Trainer for the WHO from 2017 to 2021 in the management of the mhGAP Program, the World Health Organization's global action program to address mental health gaps.

Sara Vinueza

 

Psychologist specialized in the Diagnosis and Intervention of Autism Spectrum Disorders. Sara holds official accreditations for clinical use of ADOS-2 and ADI-R, with extensive experience in their application. She has received training and possesses experience in specific intervention models for ASD such as ESDM, ImPACT, JASPER, and AAC. Currently, she is part of the academic group of ISAAC (International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication) and the "Ángel Díez Cuervo Mentorship" program of AETAPI. Additionally, she holds a Master's degree in Inclusive Education.

Karina Callejas

Graduated as a clinical psychologist from USFQ. She pursued her master's degree in psychology with a specialization in Mental Health at The New School, New York. Subsequently, she pursued a second master's degree in clinical psychology for children and adolescents and has continued her studies to date, focusing on psychotherapeutic treatments for both adults and children.

She is a founding partner of Conciencia Especialidades Psicológicas. At Conciencia, she works with children with emotional-behavioral difficulties and also with adults facing various issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, among others.

She worked as a part-time professor at USFQ for 9 years.

daniela_ziritt

Daniela Ziritt

Clinical Psychologist graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, with a master's degree in Neuroscience from the University of Sydney, Australia. She is currently the director of the Oasis Wellbeing and Health Center, which provides psychological care as well as training workshops at various levels, and she is a university professor at the San Francisco University of Quito.

With 16 years of experience in the areas of human behavior and proper emotional management, she has extensive knowledge in individual and group therapeutic work, as well as crisis intervention for individuals at risk. She also has experience in developing content for the promotion and dissemination of human rights. She works with children, adolescents, and parents in developing emotional intelligence and establishing harmonious family relationships.

Some of the institutions she has worked with include: the Ministry of Justice, Human Rights, and Worship; Ministry of the Interior; World Food Programme of the UN in Zambia, Africa; she was a consultant in the development of content for the assessment of social skills and emotional regulation in teachers at INEVAL.
