VI Congreso Internacional de Economía
The University of San Francisco de Quito will host the VI International Congress of Economics, which will take place from Wednesday, June 27th, to Friday, June 29th, 2018.
We invite international and national researchers, particularly from the fields of economics, political science, finance, statistics, management, and other related areas of social and mathematical sciences, to submit their abstracts or articles for evaluation to be presented at the Congress.

Submission Process
There are three types of submissions: abstract, full article, or session organization. Submissions can be in either English or Spanish, and the deadline for submission is April 1, 2018.
1. Abstract: 350 words or less, it should include the research question, the most significant contribution of the article, applied empirical methods, theoretical framework and/or description of the database, the article title, the main research area, keywords, and at least two JEL classification system codes.
2. Full Article: A complete article must contain all the elements required for an abstract, and it must be at least an initial version of the article; otherwise, it can be submitted as an abstract. A full article may be considered for publication in the USFQ's Polemika journal.
3. Session Organization: Researchers interested in organizing a session on a specific topic should include three or four articles or abstracts, names and affiliations of the authors and co-authors, presenter names, keywords, and at least two JEL system codes, as well as the main theme of the proposed session.

Keynote Speaker

Sebastián Edwards
Sebastián Edwards is the Henry Ford II Professor of International Economics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is the co-director of the Africa Project at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a member of the scientific committee of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. He served as the Chief Economist for Latin America and the Caribbean at the World Bank from 1993 to 1996 and was a member of the Governor's Council of Economic Advisers for the state of California under Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Professor Edwards has authored 15 books and over 200 scholarly articles in international economics, macroeconomics, and development economics, published in prestigious academic journals. He is an associate editor for the scholarly journals World Economy, Journal of International Trade and Economic Development, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money, and Análisis Económico. He also served as the editor of the Journal of Development Economics for over 10 years and was the president of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association (LACEA).
Sebastián Edwards has worked as a consultant for various governments, financial institutions, multinational corporations, multilateral organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the OECD, as well as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). In 2013, he was awarded the Carlos Díaz Alejandro Prize in recognition of his research on Latin America.
Sebastián Edwards earned his Bachelor's degree in Economics from the Catholic University of Chile and obtained his Master's and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago.

Diego Aycinena
Diego Aycinena is a tenured associate professor in the Faculty of Economics at the University of Rosario in Bogotá and a visiting research professor at the Institute of Economic Sciences at Chapman University in Orange, California. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Business and Finance from Francisco Marroquín University, Guatemala (1999). He completed his Master's in Economics at George Mason University, Fairfax (2004), and earned his Ph.D. in Economics from George Mason University, Fairfax (2007).

Paul Carrillo
Paúl E. Carrillo is an associate professor of Economics and International Affairs at George Washington University. His research primarily focuses on applied econometrics with an emphasis on public and urban economics. He has published extensively in various scientific journals in the fields of economics and real estate. Professor Carrillo serves as a co-editor of the academic journal "Journal of Housing Economics," an associate editor for the academic journals "Journal of Regional Science" and "Regional Science and Urban Economics." He has also been a member of the Board of Directors for the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in 2006.

Manuel Gonzalez Astudillo
Manuel Gonzalez Astudillo is an economist at the Federal Reserve in Washington, DC. His research primarily focuses on issues related to the interaction of fiscal and monetary policies and the estimation of unobserved components models. His main interests lie in estimating DSGE models, applied time series econometrics, and applied microeconometrics. Manuel Gonzalez completed his studies at the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL), obtained his master's degree in the Department of Economics at the University of Chile, and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Indiana.

Juan Guerra-Salas
Juan Guerra-Salas is a senior economist in the Research Division of the Central Bank of Chile. His research area primarily focuses on the labor market and fiscal policy in economic cycles for developing countries. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (2008). He obtained his Master's in Economics from Fordham University (2011) and his Ph.D. in Economics from Fordham University (2015).

Priscila Hermida
Priscila Hermida is a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, Quito campus. She has engaged in teaching and research activities at the Universities of Bristol, Oxford, and the Andean University. Her teaching experience includes courses in microeconomics, social policy, education economics, and statistics. Her primary research focus is on human capital economics and applied econometrics. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, a Master's in Public Policy from Georgetown University in the United States, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Essex in the United Kingdom.

Christian Proaño
Christian Proaño is a full professor of Economics at Otto-Friedrich University Bamberg in Germany. Previously, he was an associate professor at The New School for Social Research in New York. His research area focuses on macroeconomic theory, monetary theory and policy, nonlinear macroeconomics, business cycle analysis, income distribution, and macroeconomic stability. He pursued his studies in Economics at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (PUCE). He earned his Master's in Economics from the University of Bielefeld (2004) and his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Bielefeld (2008).

Student Competition
The members of the Scientific Committee of the VI International Congress of Economics, organized by the School of Economics at the University of San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), announce the student competition for the best paper presented at the conference to be held on June 27-29, 2018. In order to participate, the authors of the paper, whether single or multiple authors, must be undergraduate students graduating in this year or recent graduates from any university.
Students from faculties of economics, other social sciences, management, finance, or other fields such as statistics and mathematics are encouraged to submit their papers and participate.
The Organizing Committee has established the following prizes to be awarded:
- First place: $300
- Second place: $150
Each paper must contain the following:
A summary of 350 words or less, including the research question, the most significant contribution of the paper, applied empirical methods, theoretical framework and/or description of the database, the paper's title and main research area, as well as keywords and at least two JEL classification system codes. In essence, the paper must be at least an initial version of your research project and must be presented at the Congress to be considered.
