Carlos Barba completed his doctoral studies in Biochemical Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Over 15 years, he has conducted research in seven laboratories across four different countries. He is a Professor-Researcher at the USFQ School of Medicine and an associate researcher at the USFQ Institute of Microbiology. Dr. Barba's current research focuses on the systematic application of synthetic biology strategies to understand and optimize the functioning of isolated microorganisms and microbial communities. He also seeks to discover compounds derived from plants or microorganisms with biomedical activities. His expertise has earned him fellowships from renowned institutions such as the Engineering Biology Research Consortium (EBRC) in the USA, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), the MIT Media Lab, and the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health.
