Juan Pablo Muñoz-Pérez is pursuing his Ph.D. at the University of the Sunshine Coast (Australia), focusing on plastic pollution in the Galápagos Marine Reserve. As a scientific researcher and professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (United States) and the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (Ecuador), he contributes to the Galápagos Science Center (GSC). His research primarily revolves around the movement and ecology of animals, with a special focus on marine turtles, whales, and dolphins. Additionally, he co-founded the Equilibrio Azul Sea Turtle Conservation Program, dedicated to the conservation of marine turtles, and is actively involved in a marine debris research program. Juan Pablo participates in the Annual Galápagos Research and Conservation Symposium organized by DPNG-GSC. He is engaged in initiatives such as the Isla Viva music festival, raising awareness about plastic pollution in oceans, and the applied veterinary research program IslaVet.
