Testimonials

Hello! I am María de la Paz Díaz, I am in my last semester of Psychology, and I consider myself a person who loves to listen, tell, and exchange stories. This is why one of my goals is to learn other languages that help me meet other people and learn from their perspectives. Italian culture has always caught my attention, as it is so influential worldwide. Its culture and tradition are known everywhere, and that's why I understood that speaking Italian would allow me to better understand other people, perspectives, and traditions. Now that I am at the Intermediate 2 level of Italian, I can much better understand aspects of my daily life and that of others. Also, with this knowledge, I had the opportunity to participate in a virtual exchange program with people from all over the world, and I was able to connect better with my peers because I understood that we have diverse cultures, but we can share them. With these experiences, and learning the language more every day, my expectations for my future have changed, as I now have a goal, which is to go to Italy and study in this country. But what I take most from this learning is the fact of being able to open my mind and my eagerness to continue learning this and other languages. At USFQ, we have the opportunity to have this experience in the easiest way, as the language is studied within the university schedule, without the need to look for external classes. Also, another benefit of USFQ is the teachers. I believe that the Italian teachers increased my desire to learn and follow all the levels, as they care about my learning and look for ways to have fun in the process.

Hello, I am María Belén Zumárraga, a communication and photography student, I am interested in learning languages and cultures different from those of my environment, I am currently taking intermediate 1 German. I decided to study a third language because I wanted to extend my knowledge of the world and open myself to new opportunities, plus I had the chance to travel to Germany 4 years ago and didn't understand what was happening around me, so learning German was always an option to return and enjoy more. By learning German, I have been able to get closer to people who know about the country, for example, last week some relatives from Germany came, and a trust environment was generated because I understood what they wanted to express, something that my parents couldn't achieve.

I think a CV that includes several languages opens doors in the job market, as you can stand out by being able to communicate with potential clients for an organization.

Regarding the languages I speak, I have very pleasant experiences, as I can talk to other people who have learned languages completely foreign to their mother tongue, with this I was able to find job opportunities with a girl who learned Chinese and told me about her experiences, how difficult it is to learn a language different from Spanish and we managed to connect in our situations of difficulty, but satisfaction knowing that we are achieving our goals.

Hello everyone! I am Luciana Cerón. I am 19 years old, I study Marketing and I am currently in Intermediate 1 of German. I decided to study this language because I have always been interested in the culture and the language seemed like a challenge to me. I think a third language is a plus for both your professional and personal life, as it will allow you to expand your possibility of working internationally, in this case in Europe, and also the opportunity to deeply know the culture.

My main expectation is to be able to certify myself in German and be able to communicate with native speakers. I believe that is the most important thing when you learn a language, to be able to explain and also understand what they tell you.

They say life is too short to learn German, but what if you were to die tomorrow, and you hadn't tried it?

Hello, my name is Daniel Acosta, I am a veterinary medicine student and I am in the sixth semester.

The reason I decided to study German as a third language is that many of my friends within my closest circle are learning or mastering a third language or even a fourth. So, I told myself that I could not be left behind and as a goal, I set out to learn a third language.

Among my experiences in knowing a third language is the fact of being able to experience watching series in another language or having conversations with my friends who dominate that third language. Likewise, being able to understand posts on social networks or stories that people upload that are not in Spanish.

Within my life curriculum, knowing German adds significant value since there are excellent veterinary universities in Germany and plans for postgraduate studies. Many of the conferences in my career with experts and PhDs are people who have worked or trained in Germany.

Beyond a goal or hobby with respect to the languages I speak. I expect that at some point in my life they will serve me within my professional area and give more weight and importance to the fact of knowing more than two languages.

Hallo! こんにちは! I am Nicolás Almeida, a 5th-year medical student at USFQ who is learning German and Japanese. I have always been very interested in learning languages because I can connect with different cultures and people around the world. Studying languages has been for me a space for relaxation that keeps me motivated and away from the stress of my career. It is very important for me to include the experience of studying languages in my CV since I want to do a postgraduate course in Germany and develop professionally in Europe. Similarly, I am very motivated to delve into Japanese culture and it can also be very useful to connect with the Asian country as a technological giant and for its high scientific development. Thanks to the opportunity given to us by the University to expose us to different languages, I have discovered that learning languages is a passionate hobby that I hope to do all my life. Bis bald! またね!

안녕하세요! Hello! My name is Ana García and I am a sixth-semester Journalism student. I am currently studying Korean because I have been intrigued by the language and Kpop songs for a long time (I won't lie, I started studying it to understand the music haha). In my experience, learning Korean has led me to understand the “k-dramas” that I usually watch and unintentionally understand several verses of songs, sometimes I can even come across some advertising in Korean and understand it without realizing it! Also, I believe that learning a third language is a quite arduous and perseverance process, but at the same time, it is very satisfying to know the doors it opens. Learning English already gives you a plus on the resume, but adding one or two languages beyond the native one positions you on the winning line. For my part, Korean will serve me to apply for the Korean Government Scholarships for postgraduate studies, so I hope to get a good TOPIK exam (exam to certify the Korean language) after having studied at the university. Before I go, I would like to say that Korean is not the only additional language I study at the university, but we will leave that for later... 화이팅!

I am Luis Chungata, a last-semester veterinary medicine student. For me, learning languages is very exciting, challenging, and rewarding, as it is a process where you also enrich yourself culturally. It is very exciting when you apply this knowledge in the workplace; I have felt very happy to see the satisfaction of clients who do not speak Spanish. Knowing another language allows you to explore and access various academic or work opportunities, thus allowing you to grow professionally. With the languages I dominate, I am evaluating the possibility of studying a master's degree in another country, which will surely bring me challenges and adventures.

My name is Emilia Paredes, I am 20 years old and I am a student of Hospitality and Hotel Management and Finance. I decided to study a third language because it opens borders worldwide and the opportunity to live different experiences, meeting new people, new places, and countries. Likewise, because of the career I am studying, it seems to me that it would significantly contribute to my CV since it expands accessibility to people or international companies as I have the facility to communicate in various languages. I consider that it adds academic training for the professional aspect but also enriches my development at a personal level. Knowing languages has opened a wider range of opportunities for me. For example, last year I did an internship at the Hotel Ibis Quito and, by mastering English, I was able to attend foreign guests without a problem. Similarly, this summer I have the opportunity to work in a foreign country with a foreign language and I applied to a cultural exchange program that I can access because of the languages I have studied. Lastly, with the languages I speak, I hope that, at a professional level, they improve my performance and I would also expect to expand the job positions to develop in a broader field, but also, at a personal level, I hope they allow me to know places that take me out of my comfort zone and allow me to access new cultures. For example, with Portuguese, I plan to travel to Brazil and learn more about its musical and sports culture, participating in activities such as football matches or musical festivals, including the symbolic Rio carnival.
