Ryū-Sai: Festival de Artes y Cultura Japonesa USFQ 2023

The name Ryū-Sai 竜祭 is composed of two Chinese-origin characters, the first RYŪ meaning “dragon”, and the second MATSURI meaning “festival”.
Japan is a country with a rich and unique culture that captures the world's attention with its unusual blend of traditional and modern elements. On one hand, it maintains ancestral elements meticulously preserved for centuries, and on the other, innovative and modern elements that set global trends. This combination results in a model of development and progress with a focus on preserving cultural identity, appealing to a diverse range of audiences, from artists to technologists.
Within the vast diversity and plurality of elements that characterize Japanese culture, there is a foundation of values and characteristics easily recognizable, originating from a mixed philosophical base in Confucianism (harmony in society), Taoism and Shintoism (harmony between humanity and the natural world), and Buddhism (harmony of the self), as well as aspects of Western culture and scientific knowledge. This philosophical diversity has resulted in a Japanese society centered on respect and consideration for others, emphasizing community benefit over individual gain, with a refined and minimalist aesthetic.
Within our university community, there is a great interest in Japanese culture. This interest and curiosity arise from the contrast between our local culture and that of Japan, as if it contained valuable elements that can be assimilated and integrated into our own community for its improvement. Through an immersive cultural exposure experience, it is possible to project the most noteworthy values and characteristics of Japanese culture to positively influence our local and institutional culture.
