Agenda and Thematic Areas

The Third National Congress of Protected Areas of Ecuador is a space to share the progress and challenges of the comprehensive management of protected areas within the national and international context. This congress, held every ten years, will feature multiple opportunities to present and discuss topics related to effective and participatory management, research, biodiversity conservation, sustainable tourism, and surveillance, within the framework of the guidelines promoted by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Ecological Transition (MAATE), to achieve actions outlined in the Strategic Plan for Protected Areas.

Create a space for meetings and exchange of experiences to analyze the challenges in the management of protected natural areas among the key stakeholders involved in their effective management. Position the National System of Protected Areas (SNAP) as a generator of ecosystem goods and services and as a primary solution to climate change, in order to have a management model that leads national biodiversity conservation.

Disseminate the role of the National System of Protected Areas in ensuring the long-term conservation of biodiversity and the generation of ecosystem services: water, forests, genetic resources, sustainable tourism, among others.

Target audience

The Third Congress of Protected Areas anticipates the attendance of 300 participants, including international presenters from Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, Paraguay, and the United States; personnel from Ecuador's 75 protected areas; and other stakeholders from civil society involved in the work related to protected areas.

Why should you participate?

To be part of the exchange of experiences among different representatives of the stakeholders involved in the management of protected areas in Ecuador, to learn about the experiences being implemented by other countries in the region, and to share lessons learned for the development and protection of natural protected areas, the conservation of natural and cultural heritage, and to promote sustainable development in the country. This congress will provide you with up-to-date information on the management of protected areas.

What will you take away from this edition?

The National Congress of Protected Areas is an event that occurs every ten years. Therefore, it presents a significant opportunity for the establishment of networks for sharing experiences and creating new channels of communication among diverse stakeholders, both nationally and internationally. This will contribute to strengthening efforts for the protection and conservation of each of the protected areas. Additionally, you will have the chance to learn from experiences in other countries.
