Professional Profile

Javier Torres obtained his B.Sc. in both Chemistry (2002) and Chemical Engineering (2003) at Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ). In 2003, he obtained Regione di Piemonte’s scholarship and entered the Università degli Studi di Torino grad school program. He received his Ph.D. at the end of 2007, and in 2008, he became a postdoctoral fellow at the Chemical an Environmental Engineering Department at University of Arizona. From 2009 to 2023, he has been working at the Chemical Engineering Department at USFQ, where he founded the Computational and Theoretical Chemistry Group. His research interests are focused in the application of electronic structure calculations in the theoretical study of the properties of molecular and crystalline systems. His research production accounts for 70 publications in highly cited international journals.
