Professional Profile

Renato León holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from Ohio University (United States) and completed a Postdoctoral fellowship at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (United States). Serving as a professor at the University San Francisco de Quito (Ecuador), Renato specializes in Medical Entomology. He was one of the researchers who founded the Institute of Microbiology and the Master's in Microbiology at the university. As the Director of the Laboratory of Medical Entomology and Tropical Medicine, his research focuses on taxonomic and molecular studies of vector arthropods and the pathogens they transmit. Renato actively participates in transmission dynamics and eco-epidemiological studies with a One Health approach, covering diseases such as leishmaniasis, bartonellosis, malaria, dengue, and other arboviruses. He has led research projects funded by international agencies from the United Kingdom and the United States.
