Con el fin de promover la investigación científica, estimular el desarrollo intelectual, e impulsar el ingenio y la creatividad de los jóvenes ecuatorianos interesados en el estudio de las ciencias de la ingeniería, el Colegio de Ciencias e Ingeniería de la Universidad San Francisco de Quito USFQ organiza el II Concurso de Ingeniería Industrial Frederick Taylor.

General Information

The prize to be awarded is:

A full Frederick Taylor scholarship (100% over fees, does not include tuition) for study in the career of Industrial Engineering at USFQ for 4 and a half years.

The beneficiary of this scholarship must observe the regulations set forth by the University and comply with the conditions established in the Scholarship Regulations. These scholarships may be used exclusively to study Industrial Engineering at USFQ.

Requirements:

  • Be enrolled in third year of high school of all schools legally recognized by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Ecuador or have graduated no earlier than January 1, 2023.
  • Have a minimum average of 8/10 in the last 3 years of high school.
  • Obtain first place in the Frederick Taylor Scholarship Selection Competition.

Contest Rules

The Competition will consist of three (3) stages:

FIRST STAGE: Resolution of a problem/challenge posed by the Contest Evaluation Tribunal. Students registered online at https://fredericktaylor.usfq.edu.ec/ until February 24, 2023 will perform the first stage of the competition which consists of:

  • Study Industrial Engineering topics indicated in the syllabus before the day assigned for the first stage of the competition. Ver temario.
  • Have on hand a document with your name and photograph (ID card, student card, among others) on the day of the contest.
  • Solve the problem/challenge following the guidelines indicated by the Contest Evaluation Tribunal.
  • For this stage there will be an opening ceremony for the scholarship contests at 8:00 am at the Calderón de la Barca Theater. From there it will be indicated where the participants must go for each of the contests, which will begin at 9:00 am.

This stage will be held on March 3, 2023.

SECOND STAGE: For this stage students must submit a creative video of maximum 5 minutes in free format, where they present themselves in the way that each one believes appropriate and answer the following questions:

  • What is your motivation to study Industrial Engineering?
  • Why did you choose USFQ?
  • Why do you think you deserve this scholarship?
  • If you get the scholarship, how will it contribute to fulfill your life goals?

The video must be original and cannot be reused for another scholarship application. The video must be submitted by email to smontenegrov@usfq.edu.ec by 6pm on March 3, 2023

Those participants with the best performance levels in the first and second stage will move on to the third stage according to the sole discretion of the Contest Evaluation Tribunal.

THIRD STAGE: The students selected in the first and second stages will be interviewed by an ad-hoc Committee formed by the members of the Evaluation Tribunal of the Competition, in order to know their interests and evaluate their potential and abilities. The interviews will take place from March 6, 2022.

Based on the interviews, the results of the first stage and the video submitted in the second stage, the Committee will choose the winning student. The profile that the Committee is looking for in the winner is that the person shows, in addition to theoretical knowledge, an understanding of what the University is, a clear interest in studying our career and a high academic and professional potential.

The final results will be announced on March 17, 2023 by phone call or email to the finalists.

The person who is awarded the scholarship must confirm his/her acceptance of the scholarship by March 19, 2023, 8 pm, to Gabriela García, Frederick Taylor Scholarship Coordinator (mggarcia@usfq.edu.ec) and Susana Coronel, Scholarship Coordinator (scoronel@usfq.edu.ec). In order to make use of the scholarship, the winner must also have successfully passed the USFQ admission exam with a minimum score of 2000/2400, in accordance with the University's requirements. In case of not achieving the required score, no make-up exams will be allowed to access the scholarship, and the University reserves the right NOT to award the scholarship to such contestant.

The scholarship recipient must apply and enter the university in August 2023. USFQ does not keep or reserve scholarships for later years. Additionally, they cannot be added to other scholarships.

The scholarship recipient must actively participate each semester in the IISE student chapter, and participate in a CATENA research institute project prior to graduation.

The fact of entering the Contest implies the express agreement of the authors with these rules.

  • The Organizers will not be responsible for any extra and/or additional expenses, other than those expressly contemplated in these rules, and are released from any contractual or extra-contractual liability that may be imputed to them on the occasion of or in connection with the use of the prize by the winner.
  • The prizes do not include any goods other than those indicated in the clause of these rules. Each prize is personal to the winner and cannot be required to be exchanged for any benefit.
  • The prizes must be paid on the date established by the Organizers, otherwise the winner will lose all rights to the prize.
