En este instituto se realiza investigación en relación con la física del estado sólido para el desarrollo de tecnologías Nanoelectrónica (dispositivos). Los dispositivos nanoelectrónicos tienen como fin el desarrollo de sistemas microelectrónicas (circuitos integrados) para aplicaciones de lógica (microprocesadores), de memoria (RAM, DRAM, ReRAM), de sistemas de telecomunicaciones, de detectores y sensores; y de celdas fotovoltaicas. También se realiza aplicaciones en relación a la programación de circuitos integrados (FPGA) y diseño de ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) para electrónica analógica.

      Intereses de investigación

      a. Básica
      Esta parte está relacionada la física de los dispositivos nanométricos. En la investigación básica intervienen la física del estado sólido en 3 áreas específicas: la física cuántica, física estadística y el electromagnetismo. Aquí también se incluye el modelaje de los sistemas físicos.

      b. Aplicada
      Esta investigación está relacionada con el aspecto de medición y extracción de parámetros para formar modelos compactos que se usan para predecir el comportamiento de los dispositivos de electrones o fotones. Aquí se puede obtener un dispositivo bien definido a partir de estos resultados.

      c. Desarrollo Experimental
      En esta parte se usará los resultados de la investigación aplicada para diseñar sistemas microelectrónicos como por ejemplo un circuito integrado. Esta parte se enfoca más en el aspecto de desarrollo del sistema o del producto final.

      Equipo
      Misión

      En Ecuador sufrimos de una falta importante de recursos en desarrollo de hardware. Esto causa un retraso importante en varias áreas de la industria, las telecomunicaciones, la educación, etc. La idea de este instituto es investigar las tecnologías desde el punto de vista de la física fundamental y promoverlas para lograr que el Ecuador ingrese en el mercado mundial de la micro y nanoelectrónica. El IMNE formará profesionales de alta calidad y gran desempeño en el campo de la investigación de vanguardia. El nivel de producción de conocimiento será evidenciado en publicaciones de alto impacto internacional y patentes internacionales. Por último, este instituto será el primero en el Ecuador en esta área tan importante del desarrollo y contará con importantes convenios internacionales. Ayudar al desempeño de doctorado de tipo PhD en colaboración con país extranjero. Ofrecer de posición de investigador para estudiantes de posgrado (Master y PhD.)

      Visión

      Promover la formación en las nanotecnologías de profesionales ecuatorianas y ecuatorianos, introducir nuevas disciplinas científicas y tecnológica relacionada a la física aplicada para desarrollar una nueva economía alrededor de la Micro y Nanoelectrónica en Ecuador. Vincular Ecuador con países al nivel internacional a través de proyectos sobre la micro y Nanoelectrónica con el fin de crear consorcio de transferencia de tecnología.

      Descripción

      Los ejes de investigaciones enfocan en Nanotecnologías y más específicamente les podemos detallar debajo:

      a. Área 1. Física del estado sólido:

      • Física de los semiconductores y materiales relacionados.
      • Física de los dispositivos de electrones y fotones.

      b. Área 2. Técnica de medición y extracción

      • Técnicas de medición y de extracción de parámetros para dispositivos nanoelectrónicos en relación con:
        1. La fiabilidad.
        2. El transporte de electrones y huecos en los sólidos.
        3. La variabilidad de parámetros físicos y eléctricos en el proceso de fabricación.
      • Técnicas de evaluación de test de sistemas microelectrónicos
      • Medición en ambiente criogénico y alta temperatura (hasta 600K)

      c. Área 3: Modelaje de sistemas complejos

      • Modelaje de celdas ReRAM
      • Modelaje del transporte en dispositivos CMOS de tipo SOI, TFET y FinFET
      • Modelaje de la variabilidad debido al proceso de fabricación
      • Modelaje del efectos de defectos al nivel de material hasta el nivel de sistema

      d. Área 4: Diseño y programación de circuitos integrados

      • Diseño de circuitos analógicos (de tipo ASIC)
      • Programación de circuitos integrados (de tipo FPGA)
      • Diseño de chip

      Investigación

      • Estudio de sistema inteligente de reconocimiento visual usando FPGA
      • Proyecto multidisciplinario en materiales funcionales nanoestructurados: fabricación de películas delgadas y multicapas de alta calidad de óxidos, metales y dieléctricos, y estudio de sus propiedades físicas.
      • Segunda Etapa en la Investigación en Física de Partículas con el Experimento CMS del LHC del CERN - Run 2 a 13 TeV.
      • Solid State Nanopore Fabrication via Dielectric Breakdown.
      • Diseño de circuito integrados usando CAD para implementación industrial.
      • Investigación en Física de Partículas con el Experimento CMS del LHC del CERN - Run 2 a 13 TeV.
      • Estudio y diseño de dispositivos nanoelectronicos para la electronica de potencia.
      • Estudio del campo electrico enlos cuerpos de los FDSOI de 8nm usando un TCAD y datos experimental.
      • Modelaje universal de celdas RERAM.
      • Estudio de los Channel Hot Carrier.
      • Estudio física de dispositivos nanometricos.
      • Proyecto Desempeño AC de dispositivos CMOS avanzados.
