WORKSHOP: How to use the EICAT standard to assess environmental impacts of alien species

The novel EICAT standard (Environmental Impact Classification for Alien Taxa) has been developed to provide a standardised methodology for measuring and comparing the environmental impacts of alien species in terms of their magnitude. Specifically, this framework facilitates simple, objective, and transparent approaches to classifying impacts of alien species across all taxa and invasion scenarios. EICAT generates crucial data on the mechanisms and impacts of alien taxa and can be applied at various scales from local to global. Recently, the EICAT framework has been adopted by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as a global standard. The objective of the EICAT workshop is to introduce this framework and to offer practical training on how to apply the EICAT method, to allow participants to develop and lead their own initiatives using this international standard to assess the impacts of alien species. This workshop will be led by a team of international researchers experienced in conducting workshops aimed to elicit expert knowledge in the field of invasion science, including researchers who were instrumental in the development and current advancement of the globally recognised EICAT impact assessments.
