Professional Profile

Lorena Bejarano obtained her Master's and Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Stony Brook University (United States). She is the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Program at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (Ecuador) and also a research professor. She is a specialist in SEM electron microscopy. Her research involves the characterization of materials. Recently, her research focuses on clean and efficient cooking, sustainable development, and alternative energy to combat climate change. She has carried out and collaborated on studies of coatings, biomaterials, alternative materials, and archaeological materials. Lorena has published scientific articles in indexed journals such as: "Journal of Thermal Spray Technology", "International Journal of Sustainable Engineering", "Environmental Health Perspectives", "Energy Policy", "Energy for Sustainable Development", "PNAS Proceedings of the National Academy of Science", among others. She holds a patent and has participated as an invited speaker at national and international conferences.
